LABORATORY PROJECT ASSISTANT

In this role, you will work with the world’s largest georeferenced timber collection, using ambient ionization mass spectrometry to create metabolomic fingerprints of wood samples. These fingerprints will help verify or challenge the claims of origin and identity made by timber product importers. Based at the Jodrell Laboratory, you will process timber samples received through the World Forest ID (WFID) program (www.worldforestid.org).
To deliver RBG Kew’s mission by assisting colleagues at RBG Kew’s and World Forest ID (WFID) https://www.kew.org/science/our-science/projects/world-forest-id partners and collaborators worldwide in assisting with ambient ionisation analysis of georeferenced timber. This position contributes to the successful development of the World Forest ID Programme and contributes to RBG Kew’s Science mission to protect and unlock/value plant and fungal diversity. A solid understanding of basic chemistry principles and mass spectrometry is required for this position.
