The Opportunity:
Avantor is currently seeking a motivated Laboratory Support Operative to join their team in Leiden. In this role, you would be responsible for tasks like maintaining lab equipment, managing the stock of glassware, and carrying out equipment preventative sterilization, among other duties. The position is a full-time role at the customer site in Leiden’s Bioscience Park, and this is a 1-year contract with the potential for permanent employment after a positive evaluation. In addition to an attractive salary, the role offers several benefits including a pension scheme, commuting allowance, 13th-month pay, and a bonus plan.
Working hours:
Monday - Friday, flexible start time between 08:00 - 8:30 and finish time between 16:30 – 17:00
The team
You and your nine colleagues, along with your supervisor, will be responsible for overseeing laboratory shipments, samples, and organizing materials across two sites. This team is part of our Lab and Production Services department, which provides support to leading pharmaceutical companies and laboratories worldwide, specifically in Research and Development within the Life Sciences industry.
What we’re looking for
Education: Preferably MBO 3 or 4 in lab studies or relevant lab experience.
Experience: Previous work in laboratories is an advantage but not mandatory as full training will be provided. We also welcome applicants with experience in warehouse operations and manual handling.

Preferred qualifications:

• Excellent English communication skills; knowledge of Dutch is an advantage.

• Proactive work approach, ability to handle stress, and flexibility.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, organizational skills, and customer-oriented mindset.

How you will thrive and create an impact

• Maintain laboratory equipment by performing cleaning duties and emptying/disinfecting equipment such as freezers and incubators.
• Manage and carry out glassware maintenance, autoclave, and parts washer service as per site requirements.
• Keep track of inventory levels, order laboratory materials, and follow up on the orders.
• Resolve all issues with samples and escalate if unable to resolve the issues.
• Handle chemical and biomedical waste.
