Description:
The Opportunity:
Avantor is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Laboratory Technician to join the team based in Cambridge, UK. In this role you’ll take on responsibilities of laboratory consumable inventory maintenance, stock management and general laboratory housekeeping.
Previous experience in a scientific or laboratory environment, and/or a scientific degree is not a requirement for this role! We’ll consider applicants from other industries as full training is provided.

This role will be a full-time, permanent position based at the customer site - Anne McLaren Building, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. The laboratory is located in the AMB (Anne McLaren Building) building, but you’ll be required to go to The Discovery Centre on a daily basis too (7 mins walk). THE TEAM
You’ll work alongside other Laboratory Technicians, who support laboratory operations. You will belong to our business department Lab and Production Services, which supports leading pharmaceutical companies and laboratories all over the world, in Research and Development within the Life Sciences industry.
What we’re looking for

Education: GCSE Maths & English (or equivalent) and an interest in science
EXPERIENCE:
- Full training will be given, previous experience in a pharmaceutical/food manufacturing environment desirable but not essential
- Ability to understand and follow Health & Safety instructions
- Computer Literate
- Process driven and high level of attention to details
How you’ll thrive and create an impact
Managing inventory of laboratory supplies: Keeping track of stock levels, finding alternative products in case of supply shortages, and replenishing daily supplies using the site’s inventory system.
- Handling biological and chemical waste: Ensuring safe disposal of waste according to proper guidelines.
- Receiving and unpacking cell and biological sample deliveries: This includes handling temperature-sensitive items and materials that require special storage or care.
- Cleaning and maintaining lab equipment: Regularly disinfecting incubators, water baths, safety cabinets, and other lab tools.
- Managing pipette inventory and calibration: Keeping track of pipettes and organizing their regular checks to ensure they remain accurate.
