SUMMARY:

AGAT Laboratories is currently hiring a Laboratory Technician B for our Geochemistry Lab in our Calgary location. We are looking for an individual to assist in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of instrumentation for isotopic and geochemical analyses of geological and environmental samples.
This role will provide technical support for the analysis of gas and liquid hydrocarbons, other organics, and water, to ensure that sample procedures are carried out safely and in accordance with quality standards and health and safety regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education with a B.Sc. degree (higher degree preferred) in chemistry, geochemistry, environmental science or biology.
  • Experience in working with isotope and chromatography instrumentation is required, primarily with Isotope-ratio mass spectrometry, and gas chromatography with a variety of detection.
  • 3+ years previous laboratory experience (or equivalent M.Sc. in isotope geochemistry)
  • Experience using a high precision microbalance for weighing samples is an asset.
  • An understanding of the principles of chemistry and preferably geochemistry.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency using Excel and reporting results.
  • Mature work ethic, with the ability to work in a positive manner in a fast paced environment.
  • Problem solving, communication, organization, and time management.
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to lift 25+ pounds on a consistent basis and perform work in a hot environment

Responsibilities:

  • Perform basic laboratory procedures including preparation and analysis of samples, reagents and calibration solutions
  • Data manipulation using databases, spreadsheets and statistical tools
  • Provide general lab support including washing glassware, cleaning work stations and waste disposal
  • Calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting various instruments while tracking sample status and resources for projects
  • Training and assisting staff and other users in the use of available techniques and equipment
  • Compile, verify and validate accurate data records as well as maintaining and upgrading laboratory SOPs
  • Follow all Quality Control and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Reporting results while acting as the laboratory contact for persons requesting information about the lab and turn around specifications
  • Other duties as assigned
