We have an exciting opportunity for two motivated Laboratory Technicians with a strong interest in cell biology and human disease to join our experimental team carrying out work in cell biology and neuroscience, here at the Centre for Human Genetics, Nuffield Department of Medicine.
The aim of this role is to study mechanisms of membrane trafficking and organelle acidification in mammals, and their role in brain diseases (more information below). As the Laboratory Technician, you will provide daily technical support to the team and will support the work of the lab head and PDRAs on all grant aims.
You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the laboratory and supporting ongoing laboratory work, including processing samples, monitoring results, and proposing refinements and re-run experiments, where necessary. You will be tasked with the ordering of laboratory consumables, liaising with providers, and assisting in arranging services and shipments. You will keep up-to-date with and advise on matters relating to Good Laboratory Practice, Health and Safety, and other regulations relevant to the post. You will also be responsible for working (semi)independently in a multi-disciplinary team, using various laboratory equipment and following laboratory protocols and safety manuals.
To be successful in this role, you will be educated to A-Level standard or equivalent with relevant laboratory experience in biosafety level 2 (BSL2) category lab. You will possess specialist knowledge in membrane trafficking, organelle homeostasis, and/or organelle acidification to support ongoing, established research programmes. You will have practical experience in stock upkeep, i.e. keeping the inventory of reagents and consumables accurate and up-to-date as well as practical experience with mammalian cell culture and cell transfection. Finally, you will have excellent organisational abilities, and promote and maintain safety in the laboratory.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.
