Position Summary:
The Laboratory of Brain and Cognition at the Montreal Neurological Institute of McGill University is looking to hire a laboratory technician. This position will provide support for cognitive neuroscience research. The lab uses behavioral and brain imaging research to study cognitive functioning in younger and older adults.
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, participates in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments. Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks according to established methodology. Prepares materials and equipment. Compiles data. Demonstrates techniques. Maintains equipment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participates in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments. Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks according to established methodology in fields such as chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, histology, toxicology, microbiology, immunology and molecular biology.
- Records results, performs calculations and compiles data. Maintains records and files.
- Demonstrates the operation of apparatus or techniques.
- Maintains inventory. Purchases equipment and materials.
- Keeps abreast of new developments in the field to update skills and knowledge
- Uses a variety of equipment such as balances, pH meters, pipettors, laminar flow hoods, incubators, autoclaves, microscopes, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, chromatography apparatus, electrophoresis apparatus, electrophysiological recording apparatus, cryostats, microtomes, computers and audio-visual equipment.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
Demonstrated previous experience in a psychology, neuroscience, human neuroimaging, or similar laboratory environment is required ; undergraduate degree in a related field is an asset. General computer skills and ability to quickly learn computer programs (but not coding). Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance. Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to provide instructions, training and support to trainees, colleagues, collaborators, and research participants. Sensitivity to cultural and linguistic differences of lab members, collaborators and participants. Commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety; communicates safety concerns; uses and promotes safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned. Proficiency in English and French (written and spoken) required. Testing will be administered.
