Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
This position ensures the effective implementation of an approved breastfeeding programme within UHS, actively promoting breastfeeding and assisting mothers in achieving their personal goals in breastfeeding
Overall coordination, planning and management of the breastfeeding programme, including all patient, family and staff education related to breastfeeding in University Hospital Sharjah (UHS)

Responsibilities:
SUMMARY OF MAIN DUTIES
- Actively participates in upholding and promoting the vision and culture of University Hospital Sharjah (UHS)
- Ensures practice is in accordance with professional standards, in line with facility, IBCLC, MOH, JCI, FDON policies, procedures and guidelines
- Develops and implements standards of care and guidelines for assisting breastfeeding mothers in all areas of UHS, not only restricted to Ob/Gyn areas.
- Provides and coordinates education programme for all patients who require breastfeeding information, in accordance with Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) as detailed by UNICEF.
- Provides and coordinates education programme for all staff of UHS as detailed by the BFHI programme.
- Provides antenatal, intrapartum and post natal classes on breastfeeding, breast care and related topics to in/out patients in a group or 1: 1 environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides consultation to both inpatient and outpatient on all lactation related topics.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the teaching materials and adapts as required.
- Documents patient/family education in accordance with UHS documentation policy and standards.
- Evaluates all equipment related to breastfeeding, providing recommendations to product review committee.
- Responsible for coordinating staff competencies, including any revision of competencies required.
- Establishes and maintains a follow up system of continuing care for mothers, this can include contact via telephone, email, hospital visit.
- Establishes and maintains a system to record all continuing care contact.
