Position Details: Full-time, Permanent, New Position
Salary Range: Salary range at $53,500 – 66,900 based on a 35-hour work week. Salary for this position will commensurate with each individual’s education and/or experience as it relates to the position.
Location: Remote – based out of Central or Eastern Ontario.

REQUIREMENTS
- A college diploma in Environmental Science, Ecology, Land Management, Environmental Consulting or other related discipline; a post-secondary degree is considered an asset.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in land stewardship work, conservation work and/or negotiations.
- Knowledge of wetland ecosystems in Ontario.
- Knowledge of land conservation tools, practices and legislation in Ontario, including Conservation Easements.
- Comfortable reaching out developing new relationships with local landowners and producers through in-person meetings, phone, and/or mail.
- Excellent organization, interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
- Strong computer and analytical skills.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Overnight and extended travel away from home will be required.
Responsibilities:
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a Conservation Land Negotiator, you will work as a key member of DUC’s Ontario operations and the Land Stewardship Innovation team. Your primary responsibility will be working with landowners and organizational partners to deliver our land securement opportunities that contribute to provincial ecosystem goals.
The ideal candidate for this position will be a self-starter with the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including landowners, real state agents, appraisers, hunters, members of the general public, Land trusts, conservation authorities, and conservation practitioners. You need to be an enthusiastic team player – a self-starter who can work with anyone, use technology for advising on decision-making that align with strategic objectives and, be capable of working alone in rural settings under minimal supervision.
We are looking for an individual that is independent, motivated, process oriented, resourceful and possesses strong negotiation, organizational and interpersonal skills and can manage numerous projects on tight deadlines. The successful candidate must be persuasive, goal-oriented and possess a passion for the outdoors, Ontario’s land and waters, conservation, wildlife and the environment.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identification, prospecting and securement of wetland and upland for conservation securement.
- Delivery of conservation land securement activities on schedule and budget.
- Creation of baseline documentation for Conservation Easement Agreements.
- Assist with responding to public inquiries and supporting other staff on the DUC team.
- Steward relationships and work closely with private landowners, various conservation partners, and government organizations.
- Survey, inspect and complete reports on Ducks Unlimited Canada’s Ontario properties and Conservation Easements.
- Manage project data through various internal tracking systems.
- Following and ensuring health and safety protocols are implemented.
- Acquire and maintain advanced knowledge of waterfowl, Ontario’s Conservation Land Act, Conservation Authorities, real state procedures and aquatic ecosystems.
