LANDSCAPE COORDINATOR SOUTH AMERICA
(32-40 hours)
The Landscape Coordinator South America will oversee the investments in the four South American landscapes WWF-NL invests in: Amazon, Cerrado, Pantanal and Atlantic Forest. In these 4 landscapes, WWF-NL supports 7 offices and a regional initiative, financially and strategically.
We are looking for a landscape coordinator to help achieving the following long-term goals:
Stop deforestation and conversion and protect remaining habitats
Ensure free flowing and healthy rivers and wetlands
Restore and connect forests
Increase the coverage of indigenous territories and Community reserves
Catalyse and scale a nature positive economy.
The Landscape Coordinator South America reports directly to Merijn Hougee, Head of the International Land- and Seascapes Team (ILT).
Teamwork
The South American coordination team consists of two landscape coordinators and a junior advisor. You will lead the coordination of our support for the region, with the following main tasks:
Further develop our investment strategy and manage our investments and contractual arrangements for the region;
Coordinate additional support to the region by our thematic, engagement and advocacy colleagues;
Develop propositions and raise funds to help achieve the objectives in cooperation with our fundraising team;
Act as an ambassador for these landscapes inside the WWF-NL office and towards external stakeholders in the Netherlands.
Are you strategic and able to develop a vision for nature conservation investments in South America? Do you have experience in the above-mentioned topics and have the skills and drive to fulfill this position?
Tasks and responsibilities
Together with the other landscape coordinator and junior advisor you:
Are responsible for executing investment decisions of WWF-NL to South America according to WWF-NL’s annual investment cycle, including contract management and internal and external reporting
Represent WWF-NL in conservation strategy development and identify risks and opportunities concerning the conservation strategy of the South American WWF offices and landscapes
Advise on the deployment of organizational development funds
Recommend priorities for WWF-NL’s Long Term Planning process and coordinate the development and evaluation of proposals from South American offices
Keep the context analysis for the region up to date and report on overall progress and impact
Liaise with other WWF offices supporting South America to align investments in the WWF network
Work closely with WWF-NL conservation teams (Thematic, Green Finance and Food team) to stimulate innovation and thought leadership
Work with the WWF-NL engagement department to ensure the development and delivery of inspirational donor propositions that are aligned to our long-term objectives and timely and interactive reporting & storytelling
Work with the WWF-NL Science & Impact team to ensure timely and consistent reporting, monitoring and evaluation of our investments in the region
Cooperate with key private & public sector actors and knowledge institutes in the Netherlands who work on relevant themes in the region
Identify opportunities to leverage WWF resources
Act as WWF-NL’s spokesperson for South America to internal and external stakeholders, including (potential) donors and national media.
Job requirements
You have a university degree in a field relevant to the main objectives for our work in South America – or you can provide evidence working on academic level.
You have at least 7 years of relevant international work experience
You have sound knowledge of and preferably experience with implementing an integrated landscape approach in relation to nature conservation.
You have experience with program management
You are driven by facilitating the achievement of conservation results: a keen interest and affinity with nature and conservation. A background in/field experience with conservation ecology/biodiversity work (in South America) is an asset.
You are a great team player and are able to work jointly with local and international experts
You have organizational sensitivity and you are able to anticipate internal and external developments
You are well organized and comfortable working in a matrix and network structured international organization
You are open-minded, able to connect people and activities across themes and sectors, and have an eye for out-of-the-box opportunities and innovations in the field of conservation
Systematic and organized with an ability to work against deadlines, remain flexible and manage multiple responsibilities at the same time
You have excellent command of English language (oral and written). Dutch, Spanish and/or Portugues working proficiency are an asset.

An employment contract of 32-40 hours. Initially, a fixed-term employment contract of one year with a one-month probation period will be offered;
Salaries that are in line with the standard in the Dutch not for profit sector; The minimum gross monthly salary for this role is 4.644 EUR and the maximum monthly salary is 6.672 EUR (based on a 40-hour contract);
Staff receive a personal budget that is made up of 8% holiday allowance and 2,08% flexible budget, and receive 6 weeks of holiday per year (based on a 40-hour contract);
We stimulate flexible working arrangements, the use of public transport and bike for work related travel. Employees receive an NS Business Card for 2nd class travel to and from work;
We also have a hybrid working model, so staff can alternate working from home and from the office.
