Landscape Technician (Student)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Do you have an eye for detail and an enthusiasm for landscaping? Our Landscape Technician (Student) will play an integral role in maintaining the properties and grounds at Accora Village in a safe and efficient manner. Not only will they be ensuring our residents enjoy a beautiful, well-maintained property and outdoor amenities, but they will be a key player in the implementation and regular maintenance of the Landscape Master Plan.

The ideal candidate for this role will support our landscaping and outdoor space maintenance by:

  • Regularly watering grass and flowers, raking leaves, and laying sod.
  • Planting flowers and shrubs.
  • Maintaining soft landscaping by weeding, transplanting cultivating, fertilizing.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Senior Project Manager & Horticulturalist.
  • Driving and operating a light duty landscape vehicle and equipment.
  • Setting up vehicles and equipment for use.
  • Performing regular site inspections and reporting deficiencies as needed.
  • Communicating with residents as needed.
  • Performing simple adjustments and loading and unloading equipment onto vehicles.
  • Reporting any hazards on site immediately.
  • Communicating any safety concerns and ensuring hazards are addressed in a timely manner.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current education or a post-secondary degree in Landscape Horticulture or related field would be considered an asset.
  • 1 years’ experience in similar role.
  • Must be willing and able to provide a valid and current Criminal Background Check for working with the Vulnerable Sector
  • Exemplary verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proven ability to follow instructions with a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot plants, disease and pests, soils and growing mediums.
  • Understanding of horticulture practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is a requirement
  • A valid class “G2” Ontario driver’s license is required.
