Description:
BCIT’s School of Computing and Academic Studies is seeking a temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE) Language Support Strategist. BCIT is a leading Canadian polytechnic institute dedicated to providing an inclusive and diverse educational environment. We are committed to supporting the academic success of all students, including those for whom English is an additional language (EAL). We seek a knowledgeable and dedicated Language Support Strategist to join our team and contribute to defining, developing, and guiding our English support initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Requisite Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Education, or a related field.
- Knowledge of curriculum development and program implementation in EAL programs.
- Familiarity with language assessment and proficiency measurement.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience teaching in BCIT programs.
- Familiarity with BCIT student services that serve EAL students.
- Knowledge of standard language proficiency frameworks.
- Familiarity with English language prerequisites at post-secondary institutes in BC.
Responsibilities:
The Language Support Strategist will play a central role in the Language Success Team (LST) and work closely with the Communication Department. The team’s overarching goals are: improving BCIT EAL students’ academic success, increasing their language confidence, and supporting the Communication department’s goal of preparing our students for success in the Canadian workplace. This person will maintain, design, implement, oversee, analyze, report on and promote existing and soon-to-be piloted language support initiatives. This role involves curriculum development, setting and implementing program goals, assessment, and collaboration with faculty and staff to support the success of BCIT’s EAL students.
