WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a Law Clerk/Paralegal that can complement DECIEM’s legal team and provide a wide range of legal support for the entire organization. The ideal candidate will be supporting legal and administrative matters utilizing technical knowledge alongside strong analytical communication and organizational skills.
This is a hybrid role (2 days in office) based out of our Toronto HQ.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED TO GET THE JOB DONE

  • Completion of post-secondary education in an accredited Law Clerk/Paralegal program or equivalent approved combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years work experience in either private practice or in-house legal department in the areas of corporate, commercial and/or business law. Prior in-house experience considered an asset
  • Knowledge and experience in any of the following areas of law considered assets: privacy, marketing and advertising, employment law, procurement
  • Creative, flexible, and pragmatic approach with a strong partnership focus
  • Excellent organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple files in an fast paced, dynamic, global environment with tight deadlines and competing demands

Responsibilities:

Corporate/Commercial Review - Drafting and Revising:

  • Maintain corporate records for the Company and its subsidiaries, including organizational charts, minute book documents, resolutions, etc., working with in-house legal counsel in Canada and external counsel in other jurisdictions as necessary
  • Assist legal counsel on various contracting issues such as drafting standard contracts, reviewing changes and creating comparisons, creating contract summaries, etc.
  • Preparing legal documents and correspondence according to precedents and/or instructions through collecting and inputting information, ensuring appropriate templates are used, etc.

Liaising and Communicating:

  • Coordinate between differing internal and external stakeholders, including outside counsel with a high degree of professionalism
  • Collect and respond to internal/external inquiries and requests for documents and information concerning legal matters, including for audit purposes, support of trademark applications, compliance queries, etc.

Coordination and File Management:

  • Manage the work-in-progress for the legal department through organizing, planning and prioritizing legal work requirements to help ensure legal objectives are met
  • Organize and maintain legal files, databases and records, including contracts, legal documents, resources, precedents and templates, and establish related processes (i.e. access control, updates, etc.)

Other Legal Support:

  • Assist legal counsel and external legal counsel with Trademark and other intellectual property matters
  • Assist counsel with the review of contest rules, promotional material and other marketing and advertising content
  • Assist with litigation management, where required
  • Conduct legal research, compile and summarize information accurately and concisely
