JOB OVERVIEW
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Law clerk to join our team. Work Location: Hybrid remote in Mississauga, ON L4W 2M
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive legal research, including case law analysis and review of relevant legislation, to support immigration and refugee appeals.
- Draft legal submissions, including appeals and other immigration applications, ensuring clarity, legal accuracy, and adherence to procedural requirements.
- Prepare appeal memoranda for submission to the Refugee Appeal Division (RAD), Federal Court, Immigration Appeal Division (IAD), and other relevant bodies, ensuring proper formatting and citation.
- Assist in preparing and reviewing all necessary documentation for immigration hearings, applications, and appeals, including gathering supporting evidence.
- Maintain an organized and efficient filing system, both physically and electronically, to store legal documents, court filings, and client records.
- Maintain detailed records of all case progress, including keeping track of deadlines, hearing dates, and client communications.
- Assist the lawyer for the court sessions, hearings, and client meetings when required, and prepare detailed minutes, summaries, and reports of proceedings for reference and future action.
- Draft and input legal correspondence, notices, and other official communications, ensuring proper legal terminology and clarity.
- Prepare applications for judicial review for immigration and refugee refusal cases in the Federal Court as well as appeals to the Refugee Protection Division (RPD).
- Prepare documentation for family court cases and online submissions.
- Review, proofread, and ensure accuracy and compliance of all legal documents, submissions, and correspondence with legal and procedural standards, as well as grammatical correctness.
- Assist in preparing responses to requests for further information or documents from government agencies, the court, or other parties involved in the case.
- Monitor and track the status of cases through various immigration channels, ensuring timely updates and actions are taken to meet deadlines.
- Provide administrative support during the preparation and execution of legal strategies and motions in immigration and refugee appeals.
- Assist with client communication, providing updates on case status, explaining procedural matters, and answering client inquiries as directed by senior counsel.Prepare and maintain court documents, including legal drafting and proofreading of various filings.
- Manage case files and ensure all records are accurately entered into the court’s database.
- Conduct legal research using tools such as Lexis-Nexis to support case management.
- Assist in the organization of court schedules and maintain calendars for hearings and trials.
- Perform data entry tasks with a high degree of accuracy to ensure all information is up-to-date.
- Uphold confidentiality and security of sensitive information in compliance with legal standards.
