Collaborating with clients across the City, Legal Services leverages knowledge of the City’s organization and operations with legal knowledge to provide valued advice and support throughout the corporation. Working effectively within a practice area team in a fast paced environment, reporting to the Legal Supervisor, Labour, Employment & OHS, this role is responsible for providing legal advice in the areas of labour, employment and occupational health and safety.

Qualifications:
- Completion of Bachelor of Laws LL.B, Juris Doctor J.D, or its equivalent and membership with the Law Society of Alberta, or the ability to attain membership with the Law Society of Alberta immediately upon appointment
- Demonstrated experience as a lawyer practicing in the areas of Labour and Employmen
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic labour and employment advice on a wide range of issues and matters to various stakeholders throughout the City
- Represent and/or assist in representing the City in legal proceedings before various tribunals and levels of court in relation to matters including:
- Grievance arbitrations and Labour Relation Board matters
- Human Rights complaints and dispute resolution processes
- Civil litigation, including wrongful dismissal claims
- Provide sound legal advice and recommendations regarding various issues including policy development, collective bargaining issues and labour relations strategy
- Provide thoughtful and practical interpretive guidance to stakeholders in regards to collective agreements and labour and employment legislation
- Research and apply the law in divergent factual situations
- Gather facts through interviews and documentary review
- Draft legal agreements, memoranda, and submissions
- Take a proactive role in providing recommendations to avoid risk/liability
- Additional related duties as required
