Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are seeking a highly motivated 2 – 3 year PQE lawyer to join our legal team. The position is suited to someone with a passion for the construction industry, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast paced environment. Prior experience working in an in-house environment will be looked on favorably but is not essential. This role reports to the Legal Counsel and involves collaboration with the broader legal team-.

Integral to the team, this role involves:

  • Front-end work – advising on, drafting and negotiating consultancy contracts and any related transaction documents (novations/deeds/forms of certificates)
  • Back-end work – dispute resolution regarding construction matters
  • Provision of general commercial advice to support the business
  • Provision of regulatory and compliance advice to support the business – including periodic updates as required on any changing legal and legislative matters which may impact the business

As the first point of contact for Northrop stakeholders, the In-House Lawyer reports to, and will be mentored by, the Legal Counsel in the delivery of prompt and high-quality legal advice, with a customer-focused approach. The role will also involve liaising with and instructing external counsel as required.

DAY TO DAY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Providing advice on construction/consultancy industry legal and regulatory issues.
  • Assisting in provision of advice on new or more complex legal and regulatory issues in consultation with other more senior Corporate Counsel.
  • Advising on, negotiating and drafting consultancy contracts.
  • Reviewing correspondence, advertising and/or other material to ensure the organisation minimises and mitigates its exposure to legal liabilities or claims.
  • Assisting in the management of litigation and disputes - advising on customer complaints and assisting with complaints from regulators.
  • Assisting in the development of training programmes for non-legal staff on relevant legal issues.
  • Identifying, escalating and seeking guidance on significant risks.
