Salary: A competitive salary from £62,160 - £93,240 depending on the experience you can bring

We are now looking for a Lead Android Developer, who will lead our Android development for Aegon and Mylo (a transformational digital product for Aegon). Building a native Android application, you will be accountable for the code base of the application, it’s development, quality and performance. You will be the technical expert who can manage and resolve complex issues, bugs and development challenges in response to a range of functional and non-functional requirements.
You will set best practice and standards for Android development within the organisation and work closely with cross functional stakeholders who with you will build a high-quality product and application.

In addition to the day-to-day feature development requirements, you will:

  • Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and foster a culture of continuous improvement, taking ownership of and accountable for the capabilities assigned to your team.
  • Drive and lead the technical direction of Android development with best practices on coding standards, code reviews, and ensure adherence to quality assurance processes across the Aegon technology estate.
  • Manage, guide and support junior and mid-level developers, fostering cohesive and efficient performance with a focus on productivity and continuous improvement - establishing clear performance expectations, offer regular feedback, conduct performance appraisals, and facilitate professional development opportunities for team members.
  • Follow industry standard mobile architecture patterns in all development activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements, design solutions, and ensure timely delivery of projects.
  • Implement and maintain a strong testing framework to ensure the reliability and quality of developed mobile applications.
  • Own the end-to-end development lifecycle of the mobile application which includes build, test, package and deploy.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, collaborating with team members to find optimal solutions.
  • Participate in the agile development process, including sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Solid experience in Android development.
  • Experience in implementing UI for different Android screen sizes, having knowledge on how to implement components to adhere to a design system is beneficial.
  • Knowledge and experience of different testing phases in Android applications which includes unit testing, end-to-end testing and visual regression testing.
  • Deep understanding and experience working with Android SDK. This includes knowledge on fundamentals of Android development such App Components and Lifecycle, Permissions System and usage of Jetpack libraries.
  • Knowledge and experience on mobile architectural patterns such as MVVM, MVC and MVP.
  • Experience in managing, guiding and supporting junior and mid-level developers.
