Description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as part of the UCLH Theatre and Anaesthesia team as a Lead Clinical Practice Facilitator with a main focus of developing, delivering and managing continuing professional development (CPD) for nurses and Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) on the Perioperative Care Pathway including theatres, anaesthetics and recovery.
As Lead Clinical Practice Facilitator, you must have a good knowledge and experience in perioperative practice and an excellent understanding of peri-anaesthesia care and education.
In order to practice the role, you must be an Operating Department Practitioner registered with the Health Professions Council (HCPC) OR a NMC registered Nurse (with appropriate and accredited post-graduate anaesthetic module/course).
You will be required to function effectively as a leader of different peri-operative education projects to compliment the provision of an efficient and high-quality surgical service. You must be organised, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with experience of supervising a multi-disciplinary team providing the highest standard of perioperative education across a varied project-load.
You must be motivated and enthusiastic, as well as the ability to work well under pressure and flexibly as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Ensure a welcoming, caring and safe environment, as well as promoting, maintaining and monitoring standards in accordance with the guidelines of the NMC/HCPC and CQC.
Monitor the development, implementation and evaluation of in-house perioperative courses with UCLH Theatres in collaboration with different stakeholders and partners.
To take charge of project teams in the absence of Senior Nurse following performance review against the agreed KSF outline and progression through the first gateway
To participate in clinical supervision programmes as appropriate and teach and act as a facilitator/mentor/preceptor to junior nurses and others.
To demonstrate leadership skills and experience in the management of the department and provide high level of specialist clinical leadership.
Support the training and development programme initiated by the Division to ensure staff members achieve their full potential.
Maximise use of clinical resources, implementing best practice in patient flow, admission and discharge arrangements.
Ensure E-rota and electronic patient records are implemented and used to their full potential.

IN ADDITION YOU MUST HAVE:

Registration with the Health Professions Council as an ODP or with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Nurse
Extensive knowledge of nursing care in a perioperative environment
Evidence of leading a team within a clinical or educational environment
A recognised qualification and experience of supporting learner
Demonstrates a good working knowledge and compliance with CQC Standards

University College Hospital is a major Teaching Hospital and Research Centre with state of the art facilities. Our operating theatre is a busy and dynamic environment setting the benchmark for clinical excellence.
We have 27 operating rooms under UCH Theatres & Anesthesia Division which covers different specialties ranging from General surgery, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Bariatrics and upper GI surgery, Colorectal, Gynaecology, Urology, Oncology, Paediatrics, ENT, Maxillo Facial, Vascular and Plastic/ Breast surgery and Robotic Surgery. In addition, we also provide anaesthesia support in outlying areas such as endoscopy unit, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, brachytherapy and interventional radiology.
Our new operating theatre complex in Grafton Way Building is now open which caters to elective orthopaedic and ENT and oral surgeries. Further career opportunities will be available with the opening of our Proton Beam Therapy centre.
We also cater to specialist Thoracic and Urological surgical procedures at our 7 theatres in the UCLH @ Westmoreland Street site and to Neurosurgical and Neuroradiological procedures at our 7 theatres and 2 angiography suites at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

In collaboration with University College London (UCL), we have successfully launched our anaesthesia and enhanced recovery training programmes for registered nurses/ practitioners in order to develop a multi skilled workforce
The successful candidate will hold the appropriate qualifications to be a current registered practitioner (RN or ODP) and demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.
