About the Role
As Lead Cloud and Enterprise Network Engineer you will be the Subject Matter Expert and you will lead on projects in relation to the TalkTalk Cloud and Enterprise Networks. You will provide guidance and advice on best practice, technical design, and implementation, ensuring any developments to the network align with the wider Cloud Business Strategy and security requirements of the TalkTalk Group.
You will guide a team of Enterprise Network Engineers as they deliver on key project tasks and Business as Usual.
You will ensure a cloud first, secure by design approach to everything delivered by the Enterprise Networks and Security Team
What you will be working on

Network design and build:

  • Analyse and understand project requirements to design fit for purpose network architecture.
  • Review and create design documents as a subject matter expert for Enterprise Networks.
  • Direct the wider team to drive projects forward in a proactive manner to build effective solutions.
  • Work on both single asset designs and more complex solutions to deliver time critical work against project timelines.
  • Approach solutions in a logical, sensible, and pragmatic way, considering the impact of designs from a network deployment and operational support perspective.
  • Work overtime for out of hours changes and on call for out of hours support where required (paid).

Communication:

  • Collaborate with teams across TalkTalk group on risks, improvements, best practices and better understand their challenges.
  • Work with the wider Cloud Operations and Governance team to ensure our cloud network is secure, resilient, and appropriately architected.
  • Collaborate effectively with wider domain specialists and technical specialists across design, delivery, and operations to assure the end-to-end quality of programmes and projects and appropriate prioritisation of change.
  • Collaborate with Business Partners and Offshore partners to resolve incidents, validate and plan technical change and problem management, to ensure a high level of support to TalkTalk.
  • Interact and coordinate with peers, vendors, suppliers and consultants and work with incident, change and problem management teams as required.

Enterprise Network Architecture:

  • Contribute to, and drive the adoption of principles, patterns, standards, and guidelines that direct the selection, development, implementation, and use of technology within the team’s domain.
  • Work with management to create and maintain the technology roadmap for the technologies in use by Enterprise Networks, with consideration for future architecture direction requirements.
  • Understand and influence the return on investment and value gain from chosen technologies, by working in partnership with other business areas. Recognise improvement requirements and drive priorities forward – We commit, We challenge.

Technology:

  • Desire for continuous development of their own technical knowledge from the wider telecommunications and IT industry to ensure adoption of best practice and help to evolve the TalkTalk architecture strategy.
  • Demonstrate clear experience of designing, building and maintaining complex enterprise networks (5+ Years)
  • Design and build experience of Multi Cloud networks (Azure). Work with others to plan and implement Cloud Networks (3+ Years)
  • Able to create stakeholder digestible high-level designs, technically detailed low-level designs, and complex network diagrams.
  • Understand and demonstrate experience working with network security technology suites from various vendors (Fortinet, Juniper) and in technology specific areas (WAF, Web Gateways, PAM etc.)
  • Be comfortable with technology compliance and governance.
  • Be familiar with asset management, monitoring, logging, backups, remote access, etc.
  • Understanding of VMWare NSX-T and associated technologies (Desirable)

Team Leadership:

  • Act as triage and source of knowledge for the wider Enterprise Networks and Security team.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership and subject matter expertise within their domain.
  • Delegate and assign work based on new and ongoing projects, provide guidance for Business-as-Usual work.
  • Provide an escalation point for stakeholders, programme leaders and team members where complex technical issues need to be arbitrated or where tactical compromise is necessary.
  • Be accountable for ensuring projects and programmes maintain compliance with the TalkTalk “Secure by Design” strategy working with stakeholders to develop options and drive decision making.
  • Ensure that proposed solutions are technically sound and functionally robust, working closely with programme management colleagues to ensure consistency of delivery with technical outcomes.
