Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

We are seeking an Electrical and Electronics Engineer to work in our aerospace Advanced Technology Organisation (ATO). You will play a significant role in defining the next generation of products for the business. You will be expected to define the hardware scope and functionality of our new products, work with the project team through the concept development and prototype design phases, and support transition into production, applying theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills. This role will really suit someone who is a free-thinking, practical problem solver who gains satisfaction from developing high-quality, cost-effective new products. A minimum of two years’ post-graduate experience is required.
We are looking for a hands-on, multi-skilled engineer/technician, with experience in a relevant setting, to support the safe demonstration, testing and verification of engineering prototypes in the advanced technology labs and further afield in customer labs.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The ATO at Bishops Cleeve has a portfolio of aircraft technology development projects, with topics ranging across Power and Avionics systems. GE Aerospace are active in aircraft electrification research and are developing high-voltage, high-power systems, always with safety foremost. The successful candidate will be assigned to projects based on skills match and can expect involvement with multiple product and technology areas over their career.
This is a multi-faceted role with a high degree of autonomy but the core competencies that we are looking for are around design, analysis, requirements managing, and testing for power electronics hardware in an R&D setting. The role includes regular collaboration with systems engineering, embedded software development, mechanical design, and testing functions.
The ATO group thrives on diversity of thought and welcomes applicants from any background where bridging the gap between great ideas and great products is important.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree or equivalent in relevant engineering or science subject.
  • Desirable – Master’s or PhD in relevant subject.
  • Experience working as an Electrical/Electronic Engineer in the aerospace, automotive or industrial sectors.
  • Good understanding of electrical power systems, vehicle systems or display systems.
  • Experience of industry-standard tools equivalent to DOORS, SIMetrics simulation and Mentor Graphic schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Experience of safe working in Lab Environments (ideally High Voltage).
  • Familiarity with lab test equipment and measurement techniques (DMM, Scopes, PSUs, Load Banks).

Responsibilities:

  • Develop product hardware concepts and requirements with consideration to the system requirements.
  • Design prototype product hardware architecture in collaboration with the systems, software, mechanical and tools teams.
  • Have, or be prepared to develop, a deep understanding of aircraft electrical power and avionics systems including electric and hybrid vehicles.
  • Work with our customers to develop concepts for their new aircraft.
  • Safely perform functional, EMC and environmental testing on prototype equipment to relevant requirements and identify shortfalls or faults.
  • The role is likely to require local and international travel.
