What you’ll be doing
The Lead Engineer role sits within Engineering Design and Standards in the Process and Technology Directorate.
As Lead Engineer, your focus is to provide SP Energy Network’s Transmission and Distribution licenses with support, technical support and steer to senior management, peers and other operational units for your area of your specialism. You will lead the development and implementation of equipment specifications for transformers to ensure legal & licence compliance.
Performing all duties with a strong emphasis on health, safety, quality and environmental matters, you will be required to support, develop and implement policies and strategies in accordance with best practice to ensure effective management of the asset base consistent with legal and licence requirements.
As you will lead the development of engineering strategies, including equipment specifications, plant assessment, approvals and contract engineering with the full engagement and consultation of relevant stakeholders, you will be required to maintain an awareness of the advances in technology, equipment and best practice and steer sustainable, innovative solutions across the Iberdrola Group, participating and leading as required, within Iberdrola global working groups and best practice forums.
Actively engaging with T&D plant and equipment suppliers through engineering specification development, tendering processes and the approval of system assets whilst leading communication with wider business stakeholders on the introduction of new plant and processes, you will represent SP Energy Networks interests at external national and industry bodies such as ENA, National Grid, BSI, CIGRE and the IET.
Travelling to other locations, including international, engaging with key stakeholders and suppliers is required within this post.
What you’ll bring
With experience gained in an operational, technical and/or commercial engineering role which has been combined with switchgear at all voltage levels across T&D, focussing on HVDC, network design philosophy and policy, you will display your expertise within T&D Network operations, safety rules, equipment standards, specifications and failure investigation and reporting.
Skilled in asset management techniques, practices and policy, legal, licence obligations and purchasing policy, you will display your ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, verbally and in writing to devise solutions to complex problems and challenges.
Educated to degree/HND/HNC (or equivalent) in an Engineering discipline supported by experience in an operational, technical or commercial engineering role, you will possess knowledge of Health & Safety requirements, compliance and computer literacy within Microsoft Office suite and SAP.
