Description:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Computer Literate: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Internet/Intranet.
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.

EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL QUALITIES:

  • Corporate Underwriting experience of not less than 10 years.
  • Experience within the insurance industry, with sound Engineering technical

underwriting, and a strong track record in the market.

  • Someone with a strong presence and ability to present themselves to various

stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Matric / grade 12 or equivalent.
  • FAIS accreditation – full qualification and RE5.
  • A suitable post qualification will be an added advantage, i.e. Engineering.

Responsibilities:

The incumbent will be responsible for development and management the company’s
engineering insurance book of business written for the company’s own account (“Local
Engineering Business”). The scope includes new and renewal business and requires risk
analysis studies to be carried out such as to ensure risk acceptance and associated terms
and conditions are set-out in accordance with underwriting guidelines and internal
processes.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Quoting and acceptance of engineering insurance projects and annual business.
  • Ensure all steps are taken to meet the Gross written premium budget and loss ratios.
  • Handle technical queries that may arise from time to time on the Company’s

International engineering insurance business.

  • Reviewing and signing off of Policy Wordings.
  • Understand the company’s administration and IT systems.
  • Ensure that local engineering insurance business is correctly processed and

administered.

  • Product development within the local engineering insurance business.
  • Conducting of surveys on new engineering insurance accounts.
  • Work within the local engineering insurance mandate and prepare referrals where

necessary to head office.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients and / or brokers to build trust

through constant communication, broker visits and excellent service delivery.

  • Develop and maintain a thorough, technical and professional knowledge and

understanding of all engineering insurance rating tools and methodologies.

  • Meet performance targets, service levels, take ownership and responsibility of all

client interactions and assisting with the resolution of broker queries.

  • Travel to parent company for training, product development and conferences.
  • Travel to our local brokers as and when required.
  • Assisting Finance and Accounts with the clearing of the outstanding debtor’s list and

query resolution, including Reinsurance.

  • Responsible for the development and management of one team member.
