Description:

As the Lead for Education and skills Development, you will be at the forefront of helping shape the education and skill development offering to our workforce at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and creating an outstanding experience for our staff.
You will lead on the design, implementation and evaluation of cutting edge, evidence-based programmes and development opportunities from induction into the organisation and throughout careers, that ensure colleagues have every resource needed to excel, develop and provide the Best Care for Everyone. Workstreams within this portfolio include, but are not restricted to, preceptorship for newly registered practitioners, clinical skills training, education governance, moving and handling, resuscitation education and simulation-based education.
You will be able to work autonomously, but also be required to work alongside, develop and maintain strong, productive working relationships across the Trust and with many Integrated Care System (ICS) and education partners, being a visible, approachable and trusted presence.

The Education and People Development Service at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT) is currently undertaking a full-scale review of its services and the provision each provides, supporting its commitment to provide the trust and colleagues with relevant, up-to-date, evidence-based education, learning and skill development opportunities. The Lead for Education and Skills Development will support the Head of Education and People Development through realignment processes and conversations, leading change management as required to ensure the Education and Skills provision within the Education and People Development Service meets the needs of both the organisation and our staff, and promotes a positive and supportive education, learning and workforce development culture.
The Lead for Education and Skills Development will lead and manage education, learning and development teams, the nursing and ODP preceptorship program, clinical skills training, moving and handling provision, resuscitation education and a project post to improve education governance. As a senior member of the Education and People Development team you will ensure that the interventions provided by the teams are aligned to the Trust strategic priorities, underpinned by a strong evidence base, and can demonstrate a measurable impact on staff experience, behavioural change, KPIs and help to create a safe and compassionate culture.

Key deliverables for the Lead for Education and Skills Development are:

  • Work in collaboration with Head of Education and People Development, Associate Director for Education Learning and Culture, and the Lead for People Development, to scope, research and design a potential change to provision that best benefit the service, our colleagues and the trust.
  • Support the Head of Education and People Development in the evolution of, and then lead on the implementation of a GHNHSFT Education and People Development strategy, paying special attention to the creation of new opportunities and service improvements that will enhance staff and learner experience.
  • Lead on nursing and ODP preceptorship within the organisation and work collaboratively with preceptorship leads for other professions to ensure the effective implementation, operation and monitoring of policy, national standards, guidelines and trust requirements.
  • Lead on ensuring maintenance and renewal of the national Preceptorship Interim Quality Mark
  • Lead on the design of a clinical induction for our non-medical clinical workforce that aims to ensure our colleagues are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills relevant to their job role upon completion of supernumerary periods, working collaboratively with workforce leaders
  • Lead clinical skill training provision encouraging innovation, efficiency, and growth within this portfolio
  • Lead the manual handling service education provision, encouraging efficiency and innovation, and work collaboratively with stakeholders such as the Head of Corporate Risk, Health & Safety to support manual handling deliverables not directly linked to education.
  • Support the manual handling lead in attendance and reporting into the Health and Safety Committee.
  • Lead the resuscitation service education provision, ranging from basic to advanced programmes in both adult and paediatrics.
  • Support the resuscitation manager in attendance and reporting into the Deteriorating patient and Resuscitation Committee (DPRC)
  • Lead on identifying and delivering on income generation opportunities within the education and skills service
  • Monitor compliance of moving and handling and resuscitation statutory and mandatory training, identifying required actions to improve compliance and evaluating impact.
  • Evaluation of impact of all provision within the education and skills service.
  • Ensure all education and skills provision has a regularly reviewed training needs analysis, is up-to-date, evidence based, and relevant for colleagues.
  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators, identifying required actions in achieving and reporting these to the Head of Education and People Development
  • Manage policy review schedule and lead on policy review and development relevant to service
  • Lead on managing and mitigating relevant risks on the trusts risk register.
