Lucid is currently seeking a Lead Instrumentation Technician, Vehicle Test Instrumentation for our Vehicle Development team. Our mission is to lead the planning and execution of all vehicle level development tests to ensure we are delivering a quality product that meets customer needs. This position requires a professional with relevant technical experience preparing vehicles and instrumentation for testing early-stage electric vehicle prototypes as well as production ready vehicles.

The Role:

  • Instrumentation Support for testing:
  • Plan, setup and execute instrumentation load outs for all vehicle test requests submitted by engineers both internal and external to the department.
  • Collaborate with engineers internal and external of the department to execute instrumentation load outs.
  • Develop instrumentation, DAQ capability and workflows within team to meet all engineering requirements. Coordinate orders/purchases for any required equipment or instrumentation.
  • Coordinate troubleshooting and resolution of issues on test vehicles that arise.
  • Manage the cloud database for all data with Metadata for all teams to enable fast and easy access to test data.
  • Coordinate and manage the inspection, service, and readiness of the Vehicle Test fleet vehicles.
  • Support continual innovation (Kaizen) and keeping up with new industry standards or tools or equipment for meeting evolving testing requirements.
  • Travel and support all test trips both domestically and internationally as required.
  • Inventory & Calibration of equipment:
  • Support inventory (instrumentation asset tracking & QR Code scanning), stocking, and maintenance (Kanban) of all instrumentation equipment & tools.
  • Support the Calibration and Maintenance process for all test equipment.
  • Ensure equipment calibration results and maintenance logs are documented and published in a clear, concise, and timely manner.
  • People management, process improvement and standards development:
  • Lead and mentor the team to execute vehicle test instrumentations and builds to qualify all vehicle trim levels and ensure vehicle is ready for production.
  • Support hiring, build the team along with the implementation of Test Standards, Best Practices, 5S and Workflows as required.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or technical school certification
  • 6+ years of relevant experience
  • Automotive / aerospace / defense instrumentation experience
  • A strong understanding of vehicle systems, especially Electric Vehicle systems
  • Strong tracking and reporting skills
  • A strong knowledge of automotive testing, instrumentation/sensors, Data Acquisition systems and understanding of the purpose/application of the same.
  • Experience with custom wire harness building (soldering, crimping, splicing, routing etc.) and developing custom mounting/routing solutions (to support instrumentation requirements.
  • Experience preparing vehicles to achieve desired testing results.
  • Excellent communication skills and team-oriented attitude.
  • Detail oriented and organized mindset showing good time management, scheduling and reporting abilities.
  • Comfortable with initiating and taking ownership of projects.
  • Track record of establishing strong processes and work procedures.

Preferred:

  • Experience with vehicle testing on proving grounds and fleet drives.
  • Experience servicing/testing fully electric vehicles.
  • Experience or knowledge of DAQ systems such as Ipetronik, Dewesoft, Vector and National Instruments.
  • Experience with working knowledge of CAN/Ethernet data logging.
  • Having a motorsports background.
  • Licensed by an OEM/Supplier/professional authority to drive prototype test vehicles.
