Job Description
Lead HR Business Partner
Permanent
Location: Edinburgh (For roles with Aegon Global Technology Services, office attendance will generally be required periodically and more details will be discussed during your interview process with our hiring managers)
Expected starting salary: £60,000-£74,000
Closing date: 31/01/2025
Who we are:
Aegon’s Global Technology Services organisation (GTS) connects all of Aegon’s business units through technology. We provide the backbone – the infrastructure – for how everything works. We’re creating the company’s AI environment, building a flexible ‘cloud experience’ for internal hosting services, designing frameworks for data governance and management, and ensuring the security and stability of the company’s technology. In short, we enable the business units to move more quickly and deliver to our clients in the best possible way. Whether customers are interested in insurance products, pensions, annuities, or financial services, we’re here to ensure they don’t have to worry about whether their information is safe.
The people we employ are incredibly diverse, both in terms of backgrounds and skill sets. There are over 700 of us representing a dozen or so nationalities and located in the UK, the US, the Netherlands, and Hungary. The most important quality in the people who join us is curiosity. A lot of what we do is problem-solving, requiring colleagues to take what they know and apply it to new situations. We have many mature processes, but we’re always looking for opportunities to improve, so we want people who are naturally inquisitive and confident enough to challenge the way we do things. Technology is constantly, rapidly changing – we need you to help us continue to change with it.
The Job:
The Lead HR Business Partner will support designated global functions within the GTS, using a broad knowledge of HR concepts and a keen understanding of business needs to provide guidance in highly complex situations. The HRBP will look holistically at issues that impact the organisation and propose, lead, or support the implementation of HR solutions.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing HRBP support on all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including talent management, organisational design, talent acquisition, employee engagement, and compensation.
- Analysing and synthesising HR metrics and data related to people and organisational matters.
- Partnering with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
- Leading or participating in cross-functional/cross-HR projects across multiple geographic jurisdictions and programmes for enterprise-wide or site-specific needs.
- Providing HR policy guidance and interpretation to managers and employees across multiple geographic jurisdictions, ensuring alignment with best practice and local employment legislation.
In addition, this role will have specific responsibilities related to the UK and potentially other European locations, including but not limited to:
- Serving as a member of the GTS-UK leadership team.
- Taking the lead in union consultations as required.
- Actively building partnerships with HR colleagues in other Aegon business units with the purpose of aligning HR practices and processes where appropriate.
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
- Significant experience as an HR professional partnering with senior leaders and applying a broad knowledge of HR trends and best practices to advise them.
- In-depth knowledge of UK employment law, including experience with union relations and the ability to manage complex employee relations issues.
- Aptitude to work in a fast-paced environment, including the ability to take initiative and resolve conflicting priorities.
- Excellent relationship-building skills, capable of managing challenging and robust conversations, coupled with critical thinking skills to resolve problems and recommend solutions, including the ability to exhibit mature judgement in difficult or ambiguous situations.
- Ability to organise and prioritise own activities and willingness to take accountability for team performance as well as individual contributions.
- Demonstrated flexibility to engage in various processes beyond the typical HRBP role, with a readiness to assume multiple responsibilities and contribute to diverse aspects of the work, including workshop facilitation.
- Technical proficiency, including the use of MS Office tools as well as HCM tools.
It’d also be great – but not essential - if you’ve got:
- Experience in supporting managers and employees in multiple countries
- Experience supporting technology organisations
- Experience in the insurance or financial services industry
- Experience using Workday HRIS
What’s in it for you?
- A competitive starting salary from £60,000-£74,000, depending on the experience you bring
- A non-contributory pension between 8%-12%
- A discretionary bonus, depending on personal and company performance
- 34 days leave per year (including bank holidays, pro-rated for part-time)
We also offer private medical cover, life assurance, critical illness cover, enhanced parental leave and a variety of lifestyle benefits to help our staff live their best lives, including retail discount vouchers, cycle2work scheme, subsidised restaurant and online GP appointments.
