The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) team is seeking is seeking a Lead Loads Engineer located in Berkeley, MO.
Flight engineers are essential to the development, safety and success of our products and solutions. Each day, they go above and beyond to meet our customers’ overall mission requirements—from initial vehicle concept definition through design, test, validation and in-service support. Your expertise in areas such as Aerodynamics; Propulsion; Guidance, Navigation & Control; and Loads & Dynamics will drive the future of aerospace.
Would you be interested in working on an aircraft carrier to support the unmanned aerial-refueling MQ-25 vehicle? Or flight testing of prototype and production manned and unmanned vehicles? How about creating and running state-of-the-art vehicle simulations of the T-7 Redhawk and supporting flight and ground tests to verify predicted vehicle performance? Or working on teams developing the next generation of tactical aircraft? The Flight Systems Engineering Capability is an exciting organization in Boeing Defense, Space & Security responsible for performing Flight Engineering across a large portfolio of products and development programs. Product areas within the Flight Systems Capability in the St. Louis/St. Charles region include Fighter Aircraft, Unmanned Aircraft, and Missiles/Weapons Systems. The set of specialized capabilities and skills maintained by our teammates are the foundation of what defines the majority of our Boeing products; things that FLY! The St. Louis region is continuing to grow, and Flight Engineering is looking for motivated, talented engineers to join the Boeing team on the exciting programs located in this region. Selected candidates will work a wide range of programs that will require design, analysis and testing in Flight disciplines to meet our customers’ requirements.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 9+ years of related engineering work experience (ie..loads and/or structural dynamics engineering)
  • Master’s degree and 7+ years of related engineering work experience (ie..loads and/or structural dynamics engineering)
  • PhD degree and 4+ years of related engineering work experience (ie..loads and/or structural dynamics engineering)
  • Proficiency with 1 or more programming languages (e.g., Fortran, C, Matlab, Python, Java, etc.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • 12+ more years directly related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Flight vehicle program experience with requirements development, analysis, and/or test phases
  • 3+ years experience in a lead engineering role
  • Experience with full-scale structural, wind tunnel or flight testing
  • Active U.S. Secret Clearance
    Typical Education/Experience:
    Level 4: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
    Level 5: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years’ related work experience, Master+12 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

SUMMARY PAY RANGE:

Level 4: $115,600 - $156,400
Level 5: $136,850 - $185,150

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts complex loads and dynamics analyses and tests for new and derivative vehicles. Builds complex mathematical models, develops, integrates and documents loads and dynamics requirements to establish system design.
  • Represents the organization and collaborates with engineering groups on significant technical matters regarding loads and dynamics environments.
  • Builds analytical tools and models to guide product design and verifies that the flight vehicle integrates and demonstrates compliance to internal and external specifications and requirements.
  • Leads predictive analyses for aeroelastic stability, flutter, buffet, static and dynamic forces that act on a vehicle.
  • Defines structural, inertial, aerodynamic and systems definition for analyses.
  • Leads development, execution and analyses of tests and reports results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Leads definition and documentation of certification and test results for compliance with customer and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Leads failure investigations for in-service products; identifies and analyzes improvements.
  • Proposes new standards or new means of compliance.
  • Develops new analytical processes and tools.
  • Improves existing technologies, tools and processes to enhance technology readiness, improve vehicle performance, reduce cycle time and cost.
