In addition, this individual will provide leadership and mentoring to up to 10 Mechanical Engineers to ensure the continued growth of the internal mechanical community expertise.
This person will contribute to the effective and timely development of electromechanical modules accomplished by working closely with internal and external customers, suppliers, and peers. The Lead Mechanical Engineer is a key element in the process of identifying, understanding, and translating customer technical requirements into quantifiable deliverables and for their further compliance in terms of form, fit, and function in the final product. To satisfy this responsibility, the mechanical engineer must ensure that efficient and effective mechanical design and engineering processes are supported and enforced.

SKILLS:

In this position, the Lead Mechanical Engineer will provide interface within the project team with respect to the execution of the mechanical design of components, systems, and subsystems.

  • Demonstrate evidence based, data driven decision making
  • Demonstrate effective risk identification.
  • Demonstrate ownership toward “On-time and on Budget” execution.
  • Clearly understand all metrics, targets and stretch goals such as:
  1. Phase deliverable timing
  2. Cost variances - components and tooling
  3. NRE variances – planned vs actual
  4. Dimensional compliance/performance
  5. Engineering Validation/Design Validation/Product Validation performance

  6. Mechanical design effects on manufacturing quality builds yields and its impact to change/launch.

  • Lead product designs or design teams as required by the level of complexity and timing of the assigned project.
  • Drive problem resolution using a disciplined approach methodology (e.g. A3, 8D, Six Sigma, etc.).
  • Clearly understand costed BOMs, cost comparisons, payback analysis, manufacturing process costs (relative)
  • Creatively resolve roadblocks to successful execution
  • Effectively communicate at all levels of the organization

  • Perform calculations for critical dimensional design goals. Document at each phase.
  • Conduct 2D drawing and 3D models review.
  • Specify and drive for optimum molding tools and process development. Participate in Technical Team Reviews (TTRs).
  • Incorporate advanced Design For Assembly analysis and decision-making methodologies (Pugh matrix, Tak time analyses, virtual builds, and reviews with manufacturing teams) to implement best assembly methods into the design of mechanical systems.
  • Lead discussions with suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders in order to meet milestones on time and within budget.
