Description:

Brandt Developments Ltd. has a position available for a Lead Mechanical Engineer at the Regina location. This position is responsible for the design and approval of Mechanical Engineering works and preparing reports, estimates, and contracts.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design and approval of Mechanical Engineering works associated with the construction of new buildings and renovations projects
  • Responsible for the design and detailing of Mechanical elements for all projects, including plans, technical details, and specifications
  • Lead the Mechanical design team as required through projects
  • Review and investigate preliminary Engineering options during the planning and schematic design process
  • Coordinate with sub-consultants
  • Preparation of cost estimates, tender contract documents, and Engineering reports
  • Prepare conceptual and detailed design calculations, layouts, sketches, and specifications which meet Brandt’s needs, and which comply with sound Engineering practices and standards
  • Investigate field and design problems and prepare reports
  • Review, evaluate, and improve upon Engineering designs, drafting, schematics, and specifications
  • Perform the heating & cooling load calculations as required
  • Prepare Revit/AutoCAD drawings for Mechanical systems including layouts, schematics, and construction details
  • Perform the design and produce drawings for building Mechanical systems (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Plumbing, Fire protection, etc.)
  • Liaise with Clients, Authorities, and Contractors
  • Complete site inspections during construction phase, coordinate and follow-up on project issues
  • Perform the contract administration (CA) duties on the projects including attending meetings, travel as required, submittal reviews, supplemental instructions, price requests, site inspection reports, meeting minutes and all other aspects of the projects
  • Collaborate with other internal design departments (ie. Architecture, Interior Design, Structural, Civil, Electrical) to ensure project success
  • Project cost monitoring and schedule control as requested
  • Knowledge of National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), Plumbing Code, Gas Code, NFPA, and industry practice & regulations/applicable Codes having jurisdiction
  • Knowledge of Energy Code requirements, and building Energy Modelling software for submission
  • Proficiency with Revit & AutoCAD software is required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • LEED® AP Certification would be an asset

Required Experience

  • Must have experience with AutoDesk Revit and AutoCAD software
  • 8+ years’ experience in a Consulting Office preferred
  • Must have Mechanical or Industrial System Engineering degree
  • Must be licensed to practice as a Professional Engineer in Saskatchewan
  • Candidates will be required to work on multiple projects and collaborate with a team of Architects, Engineers and Technologists
  • Good written & verbal communication skills, attention to detail, enthusiasm and driven to succeed in a positive environment
