Description:
If you are highly driven, innovative and work to high degree of autonomy with significant recent practical experience with the use of cloud technologies and extensive knowledge of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery concepts and tools in an AWS cloud environment, then the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) have the opportunity for you!
We are looking for a Lead Platform Engineer to join our team of highly experienced Platform Engineers in Newcastle. You will be a key member of the organisation assisting with the promotion of the DevOps delivery methods in addition with assisting with the strategic direction of the tools, processes and team to help the NHSBSA build and run great digital services for the people of the UK. The role requires an equal balance of technical expertise, hands on involvement with CI methods and tools, cloud infrastructure and platforms and excellent interpersonal skills.
You will be responsible for delivering, supporting and continually enhancing the cloud environment within AWS for hosting NHSBSA services.

- Operate as a Subject matter expert (SME) for DevOps capability in a Hybrid ICT multi-mode, multi-supplier deployment model covering hybrid cloud, converged infrastructure, cloud management, orchestration, monitoring and automation tools
- Manage, govern, evaluate, implement process and advocate tooling for DevOps utilising open source solutions across the full spectrum, including:
o Code repository and build management
o Monitoring
o Code quality checks
o Infrastructure as code
o Configuration management
o Cloud platforms and managed services provided by third parties
- Design and direct all aspects of DevOps/Continuous Delivery for IT systems build/change projects and application support activities
- Define, develop, contribute to and support key operational processes, including change, problem, incident and demand management to ensure Platform meets regulatory/governance, financial and customer requirements
- Effectively communicate complex technology concepts and solutions to all disciplines and levels across the stakeholder base
- Advising stakeholders on best practices for applying DevOps and Continuous Delivery processes and technology
- Research and adapt new practices and approaches to DevOps and implement where appropriate
- Lead, manage, coaching, mentor and develop individuals. Refine, contribute and collaborate with our DevOps community to develop the knowledge and skills throughout the organisation

Responsibilities:
Platform Operations
1. Operate as a Subject matter expert (SME) for DevOps capability in a Hybrid ICT multi-mode, multi-supplier deployment model covering hybrid cloud, converged infrastructure, cloud management, orchestration, monitoring and automation tools.
2. Manage, govern, evaluate, implement process and advocate tooling for DevOps utilising open source solutions across the full spectrum, including:

7. Leading environment support, technology architecture and infrastructure design activities for DevOps/Continuous Delivery aspects.
8. Research and adapt new practices and approaches to DevOps and implement where appropriate.
9. Lead, manage, coaching, mentor and develop individuals. Refine, contribute and collaborate with our DevOps community to develop the knowledge and skills throughout the organisation. Advocate and champion the principles of Continuous Delivery, DevOps and Agile delivery throughout the NHS Business Service Authority.
10. Actively seek out and participate in communities of practice with the wider NHS and Government organisations for knowledge and best practice sharing.
11. Advocate and champion the use of open source technologies, collaboration and design principles within the authority.
12. Participate in Level 3 support activities for Platform/Cloud technologies.
13. Participate in Level 2 & 3 support activities for Platform/Orchestration and Automation technologies.
14. Lead sprint planning sessions as the subject matter expert for DevOps to ensure products are built with quality of service, security, elasticity, automation and controls included at the inception stage and throughout projects.
