The EES (Electronics & Embedded Systems) business unit has world class experts in the provision of real-time embedded systems, specialising in safety critical control systems. To continue to grow the business we are now looking for a Principal Electronics Engineers to join our growing team.
This opportunity is Marine working for one of the largest defence suppliers in the UK and is initially Hybrid at the client site based in Rochester (Kent). This opportunity is open to Engineers looking for Perm/Staff positions, as well as Contractors (Outside IR35) but in either case you must be prepared for travel to client location.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the team technically to deliver designs in accordance with the project need.
  • Build on requirements capture, concept design and prototype construction work to deliver detail design and implementation of the product.
  • Coach/mentor more junior members of the team.
  • Frame and direct activities related to solving technical challenges.
  • Instigate trade studies and steer to the best outcome.
  • Take responsibility technically for deliveries.
  • Provide data to the client on progress indicating SPI/CPI.
  • Work will be carried out in accordance with a tailored version of client work instruction, which in turn references DO-254.
  • Candidate will work to all relevant Codes of Practice (CoP), Hardware Development Plan (HDP), Plan for Hardware Aspects of Certification (P-HAC)
  • This work package will deliver the detail design, correlating to a tailored version of stages 3 and 4 of client design process and will provide schematics and associated documentation for transfer to manufacture.

Qualifications:

  • BSc in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
  • A lower-level qualification such as HNC would be acceptable with significant demonstrable relevant experience performing the same/similar work.

Desired Skills:

  • Extensive domain experience with breadth and depth
  • Technical challenge resolution able to pull from a pool of strategies
  • Electronic Hardware Design
  • Within this context supporting analysis, documentation and planning activities (e.g. commissioning plan)
  • Support to PCB Layout.
  • Design for EMC Compliance.
  • Fully conversant with manufacturing techniques and capabilities, including design for manufacture and test.
  • Computer literate, Microsoft Windows, Office with particular emphasis on Word & Excel.
  • Great communication skills with ability to communicate at all levels of the business modifying the tone and message according to the audience.

Experience:

  • Technical team leadership skills over a number of years.
  • Hardware Engineering within a Aerospace, automotive or defence or similar Environment, use of DOORS and Teamcenter.
  • Familiarity with CAD software used for Circuit Design and PCB layout (ideally Siemens Mentor suite)
  • Familiarity with use of simulation tools to aid circuit design and PCB layout.
  • Use of detailed design analysis tools
  • At least 10 years’ experience in digital or analogue electronics design within a structured development environment.

What do I need before I apply:

  • Candidate should be able/prepared to work at our client’s site in Rochester 3 days a week (Monday to Wednesday OR Tuesday to Thursday) every week though this may be relaxed to every other week if this cannot be achieved.
  • Existing SC clearance.
  • Due to security restrictions candidate shall be a UK National.
