POSITION OVERVIEW

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform complex and technical case management duties at an advanced level. Travels to perform difficult and complex professional nurse case management investigations and regulatory inspections at regulated entities, including site assessment, sample collection, and hazard identification for Office of Health Protection Programs in the Westchester (Cook County) Regional Office.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in nursing.
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in nursing.
  • Requires current State of Illinois licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a master’s degree in nursing.
  • Three (3) years of experience applying public and business administration, principles, and practices in a public health setting.
  • Three (3) years of experience managing public health agency programs and service objectives, activities, and operational systems.
  • Three (3) years of experience with case management of children with elevated blood lead levels.
  • Three (3) years of experience communicating with the public, other health care providers and regulators.
  • Three (3) years of work experience with Microsoft software products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Under general direction of the Regional Supervisor, serves as a LEAD Program Nurse Consultant for the statewide Lead Program, with a focus on Northern Illinois.
  • Consults with local health departments, regional offices, state agencies and other public health organizations in areas of mutual and overlapping concern regarding lead poisoning prevention.
  • Develops and manages a comprehensive training program for Lead Program staff, local health department partners, the regulated industry and the public regarding public health models and strategies for prevention of lead poisoning.
  • Attends and completes mandatory knowledge-based and practical training required by the Office of Health Protection standard operating procedure and program requirements for regional program activities.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
