BDUK is a subsidiary of the Boeing Company and currently employs over 2000 people in the UK. BDUK is responsible for delivering several exciting contracts to our UK Defence customers including E-7 AEW&C, P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft, C4ISTAR Services, Through Life Support for the Chinook & Apache Fleets, Logistic Information Services and Training Services
This post is for a Lead Project Engineer reporting to the BDUK Vertical Lift Project Engineering Manager. The is a key engineering role on the Apache Long Term Training and Support Service (LTTSS), assisting the BDUK Apache Chief Programme Engineer and Deputy Chief Programme Engineer by leading the day-to-day delivery of the programme engineering objectives, ensuring that assigned activities are appropriately coordinated, managed and reported.
It is preferred that the role will be based out of our Yeovil office where the majority of our Apache engineering team are located, although other locations including Bristol, Middle Wallop or Wattisham may be considered. The role will involve occasional UK travel to other BDUK and customer sites, and overseas travel on a periodic basis. Options also exist for hybrid working.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Degree level (or equivalent) qualification in Engineering, Systems Engineering, or an engineering related field

PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in the development and management of requirements for rotary-wing systems and / or services, in the UK Defence Enterprise;
  • Knowledge and experience of the UK MoD customer stakeholder environment including DE&S, the AAC, and the REME.
  • Experience in stakeholder management, both upstream and downstream, including Customer facing and representing an organisation at Customer Working Groups;
  • Knowledge and experience of working with the Apache or other rotorcraft platforms;
  • Knowledge of the requirements and application of the Military Airworthiness Authority (MAA) Regulatory Articles.
  • Experience in project planning and management, including RIO management, baseline and change management, SOW development, monitoring and control of work packages, Earned Valve Management, governance and reporting;
  • Registered, or working towards registration, with the Engineering Council as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer (IEng or CEng); and
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and project scheduling tools;
    Work Authorisation: This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Boeing will not attempt to obtain Immigration and labour sponsorship for any applicants. Benefits and pay are determined at the local level and are not part of Boeing U.S. based payroll.
    Security Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain a UK security clearance for which the Government requires UK Citizenship.
    Relocation: This position does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area of one of the specified sites or relocate at their own expense.
    Export Control Requirements: U.S. Government Export Control Status: This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing coordination to engineering teams representing multiple skill areas, which may include internal and external resources and customers;
  • Leading the development and maintenance of Statements of Work (SOWs) to satisfy current and emerging programme requirements;
  • Working with programme leadership to obtain required approvals to ensure business continuity for tasks relating to the delivery of the LTTSS contracted service;
  • Leading project execution to complete the work statement and ensuring the engineering leadership team are aware of programme milestones and objectives;
  • Delegated authority to attend, on behalf of the Chief Programme Engineer, internal and customer-facing Working Groups, examples of which include Integrity and Safety Working Groups;
  • Technical liaison across UK and US entities;
  • Identifying metrics and reporting to programme leadership to provide a status of functional performance;
  • Comparing actual results to baseline plans to assess project performance, efficiencies, productivity and lessons learned;
  • Planning, identifying, and coordinating resources required to support the programme through the management of functional resource requirements and reporting into weekly reviews;
  • Being the Cost Account Manager (CAM) for Engineering functions participating in the programme;
  • Responding to changes to SOW, assessing the impact and negotiating proposed changes to determine modifications to deliverables, resources, costs and schedules;
  • Providing technical leadership and coordination for the development and execution of the project deliverables;
  • Implementing the tailoring and application of engineering initiatives, best practices and quality processes, including Continuous Improvement;
  • Overseeing the development of technical solutions in response to Over & Above tasking; and
  • Risk, Issues and Opportunities (RIO) identification and management.
