Lead Regulatory Advisor – Technical Specifications
Context / Scope Diageo is embarking on an exciting and significant business transformation which will re-set our global specification processes. The role of the technical specifications team encompasses the full evaluation, standards setting and governance elements of a global process owner alongside the change management required to deliver this initial programme. Regulatory compliance is an essential part of the success of this initiate. This role holder will be a regulatory expert and will engage with relevant stakeholders in Science & Technology, Brand Change, Assurance, Quality, Procurement, Brand owners markets/manufacturing sites and within our supplier base to ensure specifications are reviewed, created, standardised, stored and managed as per global Diageo standards. This role reports to the Global Regulatory Team. The scope of this role is truly global; regulations for all the markets we operate and sell in globally must be considered. In addition, the role holder will have the opportunity to work across the whole Diageo Portfolio. Market Environment/ Complexity Partnering across DSC&P functions, sites and markets, the role holder will be required to have experience of regulatory frameworks and requirements, within the alcohol or food or packaging industries. The role holder needs to be comfortable working with scientific and technical data. Leadership Responsibilities/ Key Stakeholders: Critical to the success of this role is regulatory expertise. In addition to their strong regulatory depth, successful candidates will also need to excel in cross functional team collaboration. They will need to review data with internal and external stakeholders and be able to cut through ambiguity, drive decisions and seek clarity for project completion. They will need strong communication, interpersonal, influencing, relationship-building and project management skills.
Purpose of Role The purpose of this role is to provide regulatory expertise as part of the Technical Specifications programme, supporting subject matter experts to ensure fit for purpose and fit for future specifications. Key Accountabilities • Determine and document regulatory requirements of liquid ingredients, raw material and packaging components, considering regulatory requirements globally. • Define regulatory parameters for all liquid ingredient, raw material and packaging component specifications, considering global regulations and standards. • Collaborate with key stakeholder to define and document brand parameters for all specifications. • Determine, define and document supplier information requirements to ensure regulatory & food safety data and documentation is fit for purpose. • Provide regulatory expertise to the SME’s to support in the development of technical specifications. • Conduct regular horizon scanning for changes to regulations impacting liquid ingredients, raw materials and packaging components at a global level. • Support analysis of risks and opportunities posed by changing regulations and make recommendations to ensure specifications are future proofed. Qualifications and Experience Required • Degree in relevant Technical (Food Science/Science/Engineering) subject • 5 years’ experience in a regulatory role in alcoholic beverage, food or packaging industry. • Excellent knowledge of EU regulatory frameworks essential with experience in other jurisdictions preferred. • Analytical with excellent attention to detail.
