  • Bachelor in Structural engineering - or Civil Engineering with a Structural Focus
  • Good understanding of engineering principles as well as construction field practice
  • Over 10 years of experience in the field of structural engineering, at least 5 years in Mining, Mineral Processing or Heavy Industrial, preferably in consultancy settings in North America
  • Experience of leading a project design team is an asset
  • Professional Engineering license (P.Eng.) or eligible within one year
  • Good communication, interpersonal and Organizational skills
  • Experience in design of concrete and steel structures. Dynamic analysis and experience with large rotating equipment preferred
  • Detailed knowledge and experience in the application of local, national and international codes and other legislative requirements
  • Experience and ability in the seismic design of structures
  • Excellent working knowledge of structural & engineering software such as SAP2000 and Mathcad

Responsibilities:

WHAT DOES THIS ROLE INVOLVE?

The Lead Structural Engineer will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services to projects in mining, minerals & metals and heavy industrial sectors. Activities include leading teams of structural engineers/designers in development of structural design for front end engineering, PFS, FS and detailed design phases of multi-discipline projects. This role reports to the Structural Department Manager.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading a team of structural engineers and designers in production of engineering deliverables, including reports, design criteria, specifications, models/drawings and calculation packages through all the phases of the projects.
  • Assisting in business development activities, including attending pre-bid site visits, preparing deliverables lists and man-hour estimates.
  • Coordinating with the project managers, design managers and other discipline leads via project meetings, model reviews, squad check etc.
  • Reviewing equipment and building vendor submissions for compliance of standards and project specifications; attending coordination meetings with vendors.
  • Being responsible for man-hour planning, assisting in budgeting and scheduling of the discipline in projects. Reporting the work progress to project control.
  • Undertaking structural analysis and design tasks for a variety of mineral processing or heavy industrial structures.
  • Ensuring all the technical work done by other engineers is in accordance with the governing codes, standards and project design criteria/specifications, and satisfies safety requirements.
  • Providing guidance and oversight to less experienced staff working on their projects.Assisting Design Managers with reporting on design progress.
