Description:

Wood Thilsted is a purpose-driven company, delivering engineering consultancy services to speed up the global energy transition and to deliver well-being to our employees. We have been consistently successful in attracting the most competent and experienced design specialists who are passionate about working in the global wind industry. We operate globally, supporting projects located in Asia, North America and Northern Europe. We currently employ a staff of over 200, most based in UK or Denmark but also from offices in Poland, Taiwan, Japan and the US, with continued growth foreseen in the near future.
As a company, WT strives to optimise offshore wind farms to limit their carbon emissions through better and greener designs. Through excellent engineering, we provide the best overall value to our clients’ projects and support our clients with their decarbonisation objectives. We also aim to have a strong culture based on mutual trust, honesty, knowledge sharing and a good social atmosphere. Due to the success and growth of the company, we are searching for an ambitious and capable Lead Secondary Structures Engineer to join our company.
We have several large, detailed design projects in offshore wind, as well as a continuous stream of concept and FEED studies, plus design work on several innovative concepts (outside of the currently accepted foundation concepts for offshore wind), including floating structures.
Given that our teams, clients, and projects are spread internationally across Northern Europe, North America, and East Asia, you may expect some travelling in relation to your work, both nationally and internationally. In addition, there may be opportunities during your employment for long-term or short-term postings abroad.

Areas of responsibility: The job opening is for a Lead Engineer within the Secondary Structures department. To succeed in this role, you must have an excellent technical background within the structural design of offshore substructures focussed on Secondary Structures, extensive experience as a structural lead engineer, and be able to lead your project teams across Wood Thilsted’s offices and geographies. We engage early with the client and subcontractors to arrive at the safest possible design in line with the latest HSE regulations. In your role, you will:

  • Lead offshore wind projects with high-end structural design for Secondary Structures.
  • Lead project teams of structural engineers and designers.
  • Develop and deliver complete detailed design packages of Secondary Structures for offshore wind substructures.
  • Advice and support our clients in creating a safe and O&M-friendly design incorporating the latest HSE design guidelines.
  • Propose innovative design solutions to reduce the carbon impact and embodied energy of the design.
  • Liaise with your colleagues and other departments to ensure the highest quality of your work.

The opening applies for our offices in Denmark and the United Kingdom, based on local terms and conditions. You should expect some travelling in Northern Europe in relation to your work. Our offices in Denmark are Aarhus, Copenhagen and Vejle.

Your background: You should hold a master’s degree in Mechanical/Structural/Civil engineering. You should thrive in an international environment and speak and write English fluently. You will have a strong drive and take initiative and responsibility for your assignments, and get motivated by creating excellent results through teamwork. It is essential that you possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with clients and other consultants effectively. For this role, it is a must that you fulfil the following qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in leading larger design teams.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of Secondary Structures design experience in the design of offshore wind substructures.
  • Full understanding of what it takes to design, analyse, and document an offshore substructure according to the prevailing codes in the offshore wind industry.
  • Experience with fabrication processes of steel structures, preferable for the offshore industry.

In return, we offer excellent opportunities and a chance to deepen your competency and expertise. You’ll be continually involved in exciting and dynamic projects, in an inclusive environment where everyone is encouraged to be themselves – and be their best. We offer a competitive salary package, a great pension, both health and life insurance, as well as flexibility around where you work and when. Our values are at the heart of everything we do. We are result-orientated, innovation-driven and committed to a brighter future.
Please apply at careers site where you can upload your CV and enter your details for consideration. Attaching a cover letter to your application is not needed. Instead, include a few sentences in your resume/CV briefly explaining your motivation for applying. To maintain a fair recruitment process, please do not add a photo to your CV. We look forward to hearing from you.
We are dedicated to an inclusive hiring process and providing equal opportunities for all our job candidates. We are happy to accommodate any adjustments you may need during the application and hiring process. While this job opening does not have a fixed deadline, please make sure that you apply as soon as possible. We are going to close the application as soon as we get enough candidates.

We are committed to building a culture of inclusion where every employee feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and talents.
