JOB DESCRIPTION:

For Airbus Defence & Space in Taufkirchen we are looking for a Lead Systems Engineer - Satellite Ground Segment (d/f/m).
The department is developing satellite communication systems for civil and military customers. As a Lead Systems Engineer - Satellite Ground Segment (d/f/m), you will work on the concept, design, development and technical procurement of the Ground Segments, their extensions and modifications for MILSATCOM as well as commercial applications. You will also be responsible for the maintenance of the existing ground segment infrastructure. In the frame of the procurement activities, you will in charge of the development and acceptance phase from the Request for Proposal (RFP) up to the final acceptance of the ground segment entities. After acceptance, you will responsible for the implementation of the ground segment items into the Ground Segment until they go live in operations. During the operational phase, you are the technical lead point-of-contact for any anomalies that might occur and support the technical resolution of the issues.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Requirements engineering with DOORS in the area of the ground segment and lower levels
  • Conduct and follow-up conceptual design activities in the area of ground systems lead engineering, including but not limited to requirement, interface, user data and management data flow within the ground segment as well as TM/TC interfaces and interfaces to the customer
  • Establishment of requirement for ground segment items, e.g. ground stations, mission operation center, spacecraft control center, payload control center, networks incl. IT infrastructure as well as data centers
  • Lead the elaboration of system trade-offs in the area of ground segment engineering and in charge of the overall system architecture definition
  • Lead the elaboration of verification and validation concept at ground system level and support of relevant tests
  • Elaboration of the operations concept as well as preparation of operational requirements for the ground segment
  • Provide technical support to the project managers on planning, contractual changes and risk & opportunities identification.

Desired skills and qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Microwave, Telecommunications, Electronics or other related Engineering disciplines
  • Profound knowledge of ground segment engineering, i.e. technical interface, data flow (for user and management data) as well as TM/TC engineering (secure and unsecured)
  • Strong knowledge of communication engineering including RF link budgets and antenna designs
  • Strong experience in software based systems, networks and IT infrastructure
  • Profound experience in Ground Station-, Spacecraft Contro Center and Payload Control Center engineering
  • Experience in design, development, integration, verification, operations of Ground Systems and associated processes and operational procedures
  • Experience in leading a multi-national engineering team
  • Business fluency in English and German.
