Description:
To provide ongoing training and development to ward clerks employed within the Ward Clerk Department. To liaise with the Ward Clerk Management Team and in addition provide clerical and reception cover for the ward, administration and clerical support to the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse and Nurse in Charge, when acting as a relief Ward Clerk.
Mon to Friday - 0800 to 1600 (there may be a requirement for occasional weekend and evening working)
Skills in these areas would be desirable however full training will be given including other relevant Trust training:
- Experience of Ward Clerk role
- Experience in training and mentoring of staff.
- Ability to tailor training to suit specific learners’ needs
- Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality and data protection in accordance with Trust policy and procedures.
- Able to communicate effectively, and act appropriately and quickly in an emergency
- Experience in using a PC, excel and word.
- Customer care skills
- Effective communication skills across all disciplines of staff, patients and public
- Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality and data protection in accordance with Trust policy and procedures.
- Good Knowledge and understanding of Trakcare/EPR to ensure that tasks can be undertaken according to Trust policy and national standards
- Good understanding of Health Records filing and documentation
- Proficient in “in patient” transport booking procedure, especially on-line system, and ordering on P2P procurement system
- Knowledge and understanding of the Trust including a basic knowledge of roles in other areas
- Some knowledge of medical terminology
- Patient Experience (Pals champion)

- Act as a relief ward clerk on a regular basis ( See Generic Ward Clerk duties below).
- Coordinate and implement induction and training for all new starters
- Liaise with line management regarding new staff to ensure competent in role
- Identify development and training opportunities for ALL Ward Clerks
- Respond to training needs identified by line management and act accordingly
- Complete any tasks as requested by line management
- Facilitate Ward Clerk input/feedback/opinions and at appropriate meetings, during the course of your duties.
- Act as a mentor/buddy to Ward Clerks when required
- Daily support to ward clerks and management team when required
- Receive queries, both in person and on the telephone and manage appropriately
- Audit of Ward Clerk processes and report findings to management
- Patient experience champion
