Who will you be working with?
Our Doncaster team supports our customers through maintenance and operation optimisation with customised solutions for spare parts, repair, and, overhaul activities on existing trains.
Role: Lead Welding Engineer
Salary: £Competitive
Location: Doncaster (DN4 0BF)
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 08:00am to 16:30pm, and Friday 08:00am to 13:00pm
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Annual Leave: 25 days plus bank holidays (plus 8 bank holidays)
How will you make a difference?
To manage Welding and associated NDT inspection for Wabtec UK, ensuring all welding activities performed by Wabtec UK are compliant with all industry requirements, specifically BS EN 15085, where this role acts as a ‘Responsible Welding Coordinator’.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Act as ‘Responsible Welding Coordinator and ensure compliance with BS EN 15085.
  • Provide professional guidance to Engineering and the wider business concerning all welding activities.
  • Develop and implement Design/Engineering Authority management processes related to welding activities.
  • Supervision and coordination of NDT and Welding inspections on all UK sites.
  • Interpreting and evaluating test results in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and procedures.
  • Interpret design or operational test results.
  • Interpret the results of all methods of NDT including but not limited to, leak, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, and visual testing.
  • Provide support in the selection of methods and equipment specified in the non-destructive testing (NDT) of products or materials.
  • Select tools, equipment, or technologies for use in all Wabtec UK’s welding activities.
  • Provide engineering support to production on all welding and NDT issues.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Certified Welding Quality Control Coordinator - CSWIP and/or PCN Senior Weld Inspector
  • Engineering qualification in Mechanical Engineering (HNC / HND or equivalent)
  • A sound understanding of Welding and NDT Standards, Procedures, and Work Instructions for application in UK Rail, BS EN 15085.
