Salary range: The salary range for this position is CAD $54.16 - $77.86 / hour Why Fraser Health?:
Bring your demonstrated leadership and consultation skills to this exciting opportunity as a Leader, Clinical Quality & Patient Safety, Fraser Health’s Clinical Quality Improvement & Patient Safety team. In this role, you will serve as a resource and liaison by providing expertise in key areas such as quality improvement, patient safety, patient feedback, audit and accreditation. Your ability to provide leadership and guidance to reporting staff and key shareholders will make you an ideal candidate for this role. This role will support the NSQIP (National Surgical Quality Improvement Program) and Surgical Safety.

BUILD ON YOUR EDUCATION AND CAREER EXPERIENCE AS YOU:

  • Participate in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of CQPS operational goals to ensure alignment with FH’’s strategic plan.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to reporting staff and key shareholders in the application of patient safety and quality improvement principles and practices to support both strategic and operational business plans.
  • Develop and maintain an effective QI structure and network that supports the achievement of the operational and educational goals of the CQPS program.
  • Identify and communicate emerging trends and/or new patient safety and quality improvement initiatives within Fraser Health.
  • Provide overall leadership, direction and supervision to assigned team members using effective management techniques (e.g., coaching, mentoring, skill and leadership development, performance management).
  • Develop alliances with other health authorities and external associations to achieve consistency of interpretation and implementation of government policy and/or new evidence related to patient safety and quality improvement.
  • Represent FH on community, provincial, national and international committees as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in a health care related field. Seven (7) years’ recent, related leadership experience in progressively more responsible patient safety and/or quality improvement roles within a large complex work environment such as a health care organization. Experience in public client relations an asset.

PROFESSIONAL/TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of patient safety & quality improvement principles, methods and tools and of current patient safety and quality improvement issues in health care.
  • Thorough knowledge of current practices related to collaborative methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others in a large and complex healthcare system.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of budget planning and preparation principles, concepts and methods.
  • Demonstrated applied knowledge of data utilization within patient safety and quality improvement.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer software applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.

Responsibilities:

As a member of the regional Clinical Quality & Patient Safety (CQPS) Leadership Team, the Leader, CQPS participates in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of an integrated quality system to support best practice, a culture of safety, a positive patient experience and provides leadership, direction and supervision to CQPS personnel.
Serves as a resource and liaison by providing expertise in key areas such as quality improvement, patient safety, patient feedback, audit and accreditation.
Ensures alignment and coordination of CQPS objectives with FH priorities. Develops and manages an effective performance improvement strategy that supports the achievement of the operational and strategic goals of the organization.
Identifies and communicates best practice in patient safety and quality; monitors and reports on emerging trends within Fraser Health (FH); evaluates opportunities to spread and integrate sustainable success throughout the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of CQPS operational goals to ensure alignment with FH’’s strategic plan.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to reporting staff and key shareholders in the application of patient safety and quality improvement principles and practices to support both strategic and operational business plans. Promotes the alignment between local, organizational, provincial and national improvement initiatives.
  • Develops and maintains an effective QI structure and network that supports the achievement of the operational and educational goals of the CQPS program. Identifies and communicates emerging trends and/or new patient safety and quality improvement initiatives within FH; evaluates opportunities to spread successes throughout the organization.
  • Provides overall leadership, direction and supervision to assigned team members using effective management techniques (e.g., coaching, mentoring, skill and leadership development, performance management).
  • Develops and recommends financial and operational plans; plans and manages functional annual capital and operating budgets; completes variance analyses of the allocated budget and reports significant problems; makes recommendations for budgetary adjustments.
  • Evaluates FH’s patient safety and clinical improvement processes; analyzes data, compiles information and prepares reports for submission to the appropriate bodies based on evaluation of impact to client outcomes and organizational risk.
  • Follows-up with key shareholders on reports regarding potential or actual risks to client outcomes and/or the organization.
  • Serves as a resource and provides leadership and specialized patient safety and quality improvement knowledge and expertise to the organization in the development of policies related to patient safety and clinical improvement to promote sustainability and spread of improvement efforts. Promotes the transfer of knowledge derived from organizational and provincial collaboratives into clinical improvement initiatives.
  • Provides patient safety and quality improvement leadership, guidance and support to CQPS team members. Actively participates as part of the CQPS Leadership Team in the development of strategic plans, policies and service priorities.
