Cardiff and Vale College are looking for a Learning Coach with experience of working with wellbeing and skills to join our Learner Journey team on a fixed term basis to cover a secondment. The post holder will support learners with basic skills, study skills, wellbeing and pastoral issues. This will include offering support one-to-one and in groups and signposting to other support internally and externally, enabling learners to retain, attain and complete their journey through and progress from college.
Additionally, you will be:
- Supporting students making university applications with UCAS personal statement writing, providing guidance on format, structure and linguistic accuracy.
- Delivering screening and initial assessments of students using the Wales Essential Skills Toolkit (WEST), including being part of the assessment process at interview and induction, collecting results and passing to relevant staff.
- Assisting teaching staff in the utilisation of the Wales Essential Skills Toolkit (WEST) to ensure the completion of initial assessments and progression of skills for learners.
- To be part of the mental health first aid team and provide general advice to all learners on a range of issues.
- Support tutors when learners are experiencing personal crisis to ensure learning continues uninterrupted.
- Create Wellbeing Service and Safety plans to support vulnerable and highly vulnerable learners. This will ensure they are safe and will help identify areas for growth and offer structured sessions/ activities to develop skills and confidence in specified areas related to wellbeing and safeguarding issues.
You’ll have experience working within an educational environment. You’ll be an excellent communicator with superb organisational skills in addition to demonstrating a commitment to providing high quality learner support. You’ll be educated to Level 3 in a relevant qualification and hold a GCSE Maths and English, grade C or above.
Whilst the ability to speak Welsh is not essential for the role, we would love to hear from candidates who are fluent and can engage with learners through the medium of Welsh.
