Day In a Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:

Engage with industry, university partners and program leadership:

  • Identify, approach, and leverage potential industry partners including existing university partner and Risepoint connections (e.g., advisory boards, business, government, regional centres, research partners).
  • Engage with key industry stakeholders regarding employer needs for workforce-ready graduates, program curricula, and available resources/talent.
  • Conduct round tables, individual meetings, conferences, advisory board development/attendance, and surveys to develop industry knowledge and identify industry needs.
  • Develop and map strategies for incorporating industry initiatives across programs including the integration of industry standards and practices into educational programs and alignment with graduate learning capabilities and outcomes.

Engage with academics and colleagues:

  • Work with program leadership, academics, and Learning Designers to understand, develop (e.g., writing assessments, developing media initiatives) and incorporate authentic industry learning components into programs including:
  • industry accreditation standards;
  • embedded certifications;
  • work-integrated learning elements (e.g., projects, internships); and
  • opportunities for industry involvement (e.g., case studies, assessments, media).
  • Support the development of visual and textual learning material signposts for approved industry initiatives.

Collaborate with marketing and student support teams:

  • Create collateral using industry resources/connections for marketing and student support purposes.

Develop a small portfolio of new courses:

  • Manage projects, academics, and schedules to deliver courses on time and within scope, regularly communicating course development status and escalating issues.
  • Work with established processes and templates to manage workflow.
  • Through regular meetings with academics, guide academics through the development process, the value of learning design, what is quality course development and delivery, and how to use various teaching tools.
  • Liaising with academics, colleagues and external vendors, work through the steps of the development process including course mapping and assessment design, storyboard development, editorial and production, media production, technical QA and go live.

Ensure course quality and drive innovation:

  • Develop materials according to and conduct course evaluations against requisite university and industry standards to ensure quality.
  • Drive pedagogical and AI innovation within the learning design process to further enhance productivity.

What You’ll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • A Master’s degree or relevant certifications are desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in instructional design, with at least 2 years focused on industry-specific training. Proven track record of designing and delivering successful learning programs.
  • Strategic mindset and proactive, independent approach to identify opportunities, make connections and develop relationships that drive industry-connected learning.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design models and adult learning principles.
  • Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas, Moodle) and e-learning development tools (e.g., H5P, Articulate Storyline, Captivate).
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively and independently with SMEs and stakeholders.
  • Analytical skills to assess learning needs and evaluate program effectiveness.
