Description:

Provide technical consultation and development services in conceptual design, development and implementation of technology-enabled learning programs to our clients by working closely with internal and external clients, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Learning Advisors and Learning Experience Designers. Elicit and assess stakeholder requirements, recommend and build appropriate solutions consistent with user experience and visual design principles and design thinking methodology to transform complex concepts, processes and designs into engaging learning experiences across various digital delivery channels. Develop learning content considering all related standards, guidelines and best practices, consistent with WSIB styles, standards, business and systems requirements.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • University completion at undergraduate level with a specialty focus in Commerce, Communication, Design, Education or Information Technology; or an undergraduate degree with a certificate in Adult Education and/or Workplace Learning Design/Development.

Experience

  • Five years prior experience in user experience design, web development, eLearning authoring software (e.g., Articulate 360), learning content development (e.g., audio, graphics, video files, etc.), learning platform expertise, learning management system inter-operability and Adobe Creative Suite or a subset (i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator, Audition, Premiere, etc.).

Responsibilities:

  1. Work collaboratively with stakeholders and learning solutions team to implement designs and develop learning content following user experience and visual design principles and selecting the most appropriate delivery channels, i.e. learning management system (LMS), SharePoint, mobile, WSIB website etc., to deliver learning to all areas of the WSIB or external clients.
  2. Research and analyze existing source materials, conduct technology needs assessment to obtain detailed, in-depth information on the audience’s computer experience and comfort level as well as their computer technical specs in order to identify most appropriate development strategies, software and delivery methods. Apply user experience design principles and theory in the creative process to develop learning products and create learner experiences that stimulate engagement, interaction and retention.

  3. Develop learning content including modules, courses, curricula, graphics and photos, animations, infographics, graphs, interactive charts, audio and video files by:

  • Adhering to the design thinking process, user experience design and project management principles;
  • Championing user research and usability standards, in order to create designs that engage and inspire audiences, while driving successful business outcomes. Rapidly and iteratively creating impactful and engaging self-paced courses, instructional guides, performance support tools, simulations, learning assessments, games, mobile applications, social learning networks, videos, webinars etc.. to enable continuous on the job learning;
  • Writing business requirements documents and technology specifications outlining proposed Learning architecture, navigation and functional design; developing Graphical User Interface and Learning product templates; utilizing SCORM or xAPI compliant coding or software that will function in the WSIB LMS or other learning, collaboration and knowledge management systems;
  • Utilizing HTML, JavaScript and CSS to extend functionality of authoring tools;
  • Setting up required audio visual equipment and creating audio and video recordings as required to develop learning solutions/branch marketing materials.
  1. Consult and assist Learning Advisors and/or Learning Experience Designers in the design and development of learning solutions that accommodate the limitations and opportunities of various platforms and authoring tools such as Microsoft 365 including SharePoint, Articulate 360, Adobe Suite (i.e., Photoshop, Illustrator, Audition, Premiere, etc.), Lectora and TechSmith Camtasia.
  2. Work with learning design teams to rapidly ideate, prototype, and iterate a range of proposed designs for a given opportunity, then collaboratively review and validate their effectiveness. Translate learning objectives and modules of content to ensure mastery of learning objectives, including but not limited to knowledge checks, quizzes, exercises, scripts, storyboards, simulations, videos, or games. Perform detailed quality assurance (QA) on own work and work of others to ensure deliverables meet all requirements of the storyboard design, and LMS interoperability.
  3. Perform or co-ordinate User Experience testing using Dragon, Jaws and Zoom text to ensure learning products meet WSIB usability standards requirements such as WCAG 2.0 and WSIB Brand.
  4. Design and develop SharePoint sites adhering to user experience design principles and making use of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  5. Interface and coordinate internal and/or external resources/suppliers on learning solution development projects for various media or learning products - may include internal/external audio/video talent or external graphic designers, animators, videographers, video editors, sound technicians/editors, and photographers.

  6. Manage and organize learning program assets by:

  • Ensuring consistent directory structure, file naming conventions, learning projects template adherence, visual continuity, consistency and professional standards for all learning products;
  • Providing technical expertise in managing and configuring learning content management/curation platforms, creating processes to effectively track and monitor user-generated content and social learning channels to ensure they adhere to WSIB policies and standards and provide metrics;
  • Acquiring media materials (photo libraries, clip art, software, hardware) to enhance the branch’s media repertoire.
  1. Adhere to visual standards and ‘best practices’ for learning design during development, and ensure these standards conform to WSIB corporate visual standards and regulation compliance by:
  • Designing learning product standards and templates, developer’s toolkit, style guide, eLearning guidelines, and technical specifications taking into consideration SCORM/xAPI, AODA, WCAG 2.0, FIPPA;
  • Collaborating with other team members to develop, implement, review and revise standards, documentation and processes to ensure learning products meet development standards of excellence;
  • Participating or leading usability studies to support ongoing development and improvement of development and navigational strategies;
  • Responsible for copyright, privacy arising from the acquisition and usage of media in learning products.
  1. Liaise with external vendors and internal WSIB Information Technology Cluster to problem-solve/troubleshoot technical problems related to eLearning projects or resources deployment as required. Provide technical support to team members and learners to troubleshoot issues related to learning technologies such as virtual classes, student response system, LMS etc.
  2. Keep abreast of industry best practices, current/future learning technology trends, learning/user experience design theories and development methodologies, techniques, and software into current development methods to continually improve the learning services.
  3. Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
