THE OPPORTUNITY

We are currently seeking a Learning & Development Manager to join our Talent Management team.
This is a permanent position located in Canada or Brazil depending on the current location of the successful candidate.
As a Learning & Development Manager, you will be responsible for designing and implementing the Learning & Development strategy that drives business performance & employee development for Base Metals units in Asia, Brazil, Canada, UK and Indonesia. More specifically, the role involves Identification of people development needs and capabilities across the business, continuing education with emphasis on the development of technical and managerial careers, professional training aligned with the workforce planning: programs to promote manpower in the sites / locations where Vale operates, ensuring quantity and qualified people to support business expansion, knowledge management at a global level, ensure learning best practices are being monitored and implemented pursuing “leading edge role in education” in the global mining sector and establish a governance by managing and maintaining standards, norms, and policies for BM business.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Create Leadership Development Programs for managers and senior executives.
  • Execute the process of talent which includes Potential assessment, Individual development plan and succession planning.
  • Design and implement employee career development programs.
  • Design a framework for programs such as apprentices, global trainees, miner-in-training and others ensuring standard content related to BM strategy, Culture, Principles and DEI.
  • Support the development of the Employee Value Proposition in partnership with Talent Acquisition team.
  • Create training content & programs to deliver the culture, safety & key behaviors and other key strategic initiatives across Vale Base Metals.
  • Implement a Global onboarding program across the business.
  • Manage the BM Learning Management System (VES) and online learning platforms for 13,000 employees and implement improvements.

EDUCATION:

  • An undergraduate degree in education, arts, psychology, business or a related field of study.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience as a leader, providing both strategic and operational learning and development expertise within a heavy industry.

SKILLS:

  • Experience in policy & strategy development & deployment.
  • Extensive experience in designing & implementation of Learning & Development & Talent Management programs, tools and models that are fit for purpose.
  • Experience in defining targets and measuring & developing reports for executive management.
  • Experience in analyzing data to make informed decisions & support executive decisions.
  • Experience managing process & systems, technology & software for learning management systems & platforms.
  • Strong leadership capability with proven track record of successful team development and working effectively with all organizational levels.
  • Knowledge of training and learning systems.
  • Experience in companies with global structure.
  • Experience in leading a team of senior staff.
