LEARNING & IMPROVEMENT LEAD

THE OPPORTUNITY
We’re looking for you to join us as our next Learning & Improvement Lead where you’ll play a critical role in ensuring the HPC Project fulfils its commitment to effective self-regulation, maintaining compliance with Nuclear Site Licence (LC7) requirements by recording and learning from site incidents. It plays a pivotal part in enhancing both conventional and nuclear safety throughout the project’s lifecycle, while also sharing valuable insights with the broader EPR Programme.
In this role, you will manage a team of Internal Learning Coordinators and take charge of overseeing the daily management of all Observations & Incidents reported into the Project Reporting Tool. You will ensure the Internal Learning Screening Meeting runs smoothly, with corrective actions identified and driven to completion. You’ll also be responsible for creating, adapting, and managing Key Performance Indicators to assess the overall health of the organisational learning framework, while making proactive recommendations for process improvements.

You’ll thrive in fast-paced, delivery-oriented settings, have a solid understanding of engineering projects, and bring expertise in health, safety, and environmental practices within construction. Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and confidence in presenting are essential, along with familiarity with high-hazard industries and a strong grasp of statistical analysis and KPI interpretation. Additional requirements for this role include:
- Degree in a relevant subject matter (or equivalent education) would be advantagious
- Extensive experience in creating KPIs, metrics, and data analysis in heavily regulated industries (Nuclear, Oil & Gas, Rail, etc.).
- Trained in Root Cause Investigation, with hands-on experience leading or supporting investigations.
- Internal ISO 45001 Auditor qualification is a plus.
- Proven ability to conduct field inspections using tools like i-auditor.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) with additional knowledge in reporting systems like PowerBi or Business Objects.
- Experience in promoting and applying error reduction techniques.
- NEBOSH General Certificate, NVQ Level 6, or NEBOSH Diploma in Health & Safety preferred (or working towards).
Responsibilities:
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
In this role, you will be responsible for developing and delivering targeted training and briefings to ensure all site personnel have a solid understanding of reporting culture and learning systems. You’ll work closely with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring effective knowledge transfer and collaboration, while driving continuous improvement in inspection modules, learning processes, and corrective action management. Additionally, you will lead communication campaigns to promote learning initiatives across the project and keep systems updated with site standards and HS&E regulations. Additional responsibilities include:
- Lead on-site visits to engage with workers, gather feedback, and drive improvements in partnership with Communications, HSE, Quality, and Security teams.
- Ensure the Site Reporting System is efficiently used, providing input for system updates and improvements.
- Act as the liaison between Site and Client Safety & Env Teams to validate and maintain accurate reporting data, ensuring correct accident classifications and alignment with project indicators.
- Evaluate learning opportunities, balancing safety, quality, time, and cost for appropriate responses.
- Oversee Quality Check strategy, using feedback to drive improvements in user performance.
- Lead the strategy for the Inspections Module, working with teams to refine checklist content and ensure data output is used effectively in relevant forums.
- Monitor trends, creating reports and taking proactive action when adverse trends emerge.
- Manage the Internal Request for Learning Process, ensuring timely, high-quality responses.
- Actively gather feedback through various methods, leading User Groups to capture improvement ideas and drive changes.
- Represent the L&I Manager in project meetings and forums as needed.
- Chair Internal Screening Meetings and cover for External Learning and Investigation Review Meetings when required.
