Hackney’s Adult Learning Service is responsible for the delivery of adult learning within the London Borough of Hackney, engaging and supporting residents to take their first steps towards community involvement, personal development, formal learning, training or employment. Courses offered range from English and mathematics up to GCSE, ESOL, digital skills and vocational training up to level 2 and 3 as well as creative and wellbeing programmes.
The Adult Learning Service is seeking to recruit Learning Support Assistants to join the Curriculum team. This is an exciting opportunity to join our hard working and successful team to provide a high-quality provision of teaching to our learners and residents.
We are looking to appoint 3 strong, enthusiastic, committed and creative full or part time Learning Support Assistants to work in a range of Hackney teaching venues. You will be working with adults with a range of support needs, learning difficulties and/or disabilities both in the classroom, online and throughout the service.
All of our LSAs are expected to be flexible in their approach and carry out general classroom assistance as well. You must have excellent attendance as working with adults with learning needs requires stability in support.
You will assist teaching staff in all aspects of lesson preparation and support them in the delivery of the curriculum to learners with additional learning support needs.
There is variety in this role which also includes supporting curriculum areas with the initial assessment of learners and their appropriate placement onto courses as well as promoting and publicising learning opportunities to residents. You will be based at different community sites in the borough as part of the Employment Skills and Adult Learning outreach advice service with the opportunity to interact with the public and with community partners.
The successful candidate will be passionate about promoting the inclusion and acceptance of all learners and will be able to set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence. You will have a level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent (or be qualified at level 2 and be willing to work towards the level 3 qualification) and you will have proven experience of supporting adults who have learning difficulties, disabilities or who present challenging behaviour in an educational environment. Candidates must be able to use their own initiative and have a good standard of written English as well as strong maths and digital skills (grade 9 – 5 or level 2) and excellent communication skills.
This is an exciting time to join the team as we develop provision to meet the emerging skills needs of disadvantaged learners and families, working closely with colleagues in Employment & Skills to play a key part in achieving transformative outcomes for Hackney residents. This role is an opportunity to really make a difference to people’s lives and will be hugely rewarding to the right candidate. Appointment to this post is subject to enhanced vetting checks.
