Description:
The School of Biosciences and Chemistry is looking to recruit a permanent full time Lecturer in Analytical Chemistry to deliver research-informed teaching across our undergraduate and postgraduate, bioscience and chemistry programmes, including our foundation year.
You will be an enthusiastic and committed individual, who is able to contribute towards the current portfolio and create a vibrant, engaging learning experience for our students.
Your role will involve all aspects of learning, teaching and assessment, including preparation, lecturing, tutorials and assessment, as well as teaching of laboratory classes, supporting students on placement or in work-based learning, as well as undertake administrative duties relevant to module and course delivery.
You will have a relevant PhD (or equivalent experience) in analytical chemistry, bioanalytical chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
We are especially keen to hear from applicants who can teach a wide range of analytical methods such as chromatography, HPLC, GLC, SPE, AS, AEs, FR-IR and mass spectroscopy (LC-MS, GC-MS ESI-MS, MALDI, DESI, APCI, ICP-MS) and have research experience in an analytical science related field with a proven research track record evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals.
It would be great if you have research experience in mass spectrometry imaging and/or the use of mass spectrometry for spatially resolved chemical analysis.
Proficiency in bioinformatics and data processing software relevant to MS, including statistical analysis for high-dimensional data and an ability to analyse, interpret and visualise mass spectrometry data, ensuring reproducibility and reliability is also desirable.
You will be expected to contribute to research outcomes as part of a multi-disciplinary team, in an area aligned to the key research themes of the Biomolecular Sciences Research Centre (BMRC).
These will enhance the research centre profile through publication of high-quality research, income generation and/or knowledge exchange activities. You should have the ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary research teams, contributing to and integrating knowledge from other areas.
We offer a diverse range of benefits and opportunities to pursue a rewarding and fulfilling career in a supportive environment.
You will be contractually enrolled into the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS) – one of the largest and most generous defined benefit pension schemes in the country.
Find out more about the TPS.
If you are, or have been, a recent member of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) directly prior to joining us, you can choose to opt out of the TPS and remain in the USS. Please contact the Pensions team to discuss options available.
