POSITION OVERVIEW

This ongoing position is situated within the ANU School of Art and Design. Established within the School in 2016, the Design program combines contemporary design methods and digital skills with hands-on making. It prepares graduates who are skilled, inventive, versatile and ready to engage with present and future global opportunities and challenges. Our program is strategically undisciplined in recognition of the need for designers of the future to navigate complexity across traditional boundaries. We support a focus on social and environmental responsibility and encourage students to develop an ethical framework as emerging design practitioners.
The School is seeking a Lecturer to contribute to this ambitious, future-focused design program. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Design or a related field, with relevant experience in design practice and an active research and publication agenda.
The successful candidate will contribute to the program at all levels from undergraduate to PhD, delivering project-based learning, engaging with industry and community and supervising research students. Applicants should have experience in teaching contemporary design practice and methods, and the ability to contribute to a range of curriculum areas.
The School of Art & Design is located in the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) at ANU’s Acton Campus, adjacent to Canberra’s city centre. The ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) is one of seven Colleges at ANU. The College, which is structured into two main research schools, offers degrees in more than 20 discipline areas and excels in research across the creative arts, humanities and social sciences. The College has a substantial international research presence and is a major source of national policy advice. Our academic staff are internationally recognised for their research, and 57 are members of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, the Academy of the Social Sciences of Australia, or both. We also host 13 Australian Research Council Future Fellows and three ARC Laureates. A hub of vibrant activity, we host more than 270 lectures, concerts and exhibitions each year, most of which are open to the public. Our students, staff and graduates come from more than 60 nations, bringing a diversity of perspective to campus life.
