Description:
The University welcomes applications from exceptional candidates for a permanent Lectureship within the School of Engineering, in Digital Manufacturing with a particular focus on Design Optimization for Sustainable Manufacturing. The successful applicants will be able to drive forwards exciting research and teaching programmes and develop pathways to impact in Digital Manufacturing, with a particular focus on Engineering Design for Sustainability.
Manchester has long been a leader in Engineering, with historical routes dating back to the Industrial Revolution and the foundation of The Institute of Mechanics in 1824. Today, the taught programmes of Mechanical and Aerospace engineering welcome over 1600 students across the spectrum of courses, and we are a home to over 120 academic and research staff.
The School of Engineering at Manchester is a world-leading centre for education in the Mechanical Engineering and other disciplines. Our key research thematic priorities include Net Zero & Environmental Sustainability, Robotics, Autonomous Systems & AI, Digital Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, and Engineering for Health and Engineering Materials. This post is in addition to a number of recent appointments in Innovative Manufacturing and in areas of research targeting rapid and deep decarbonisation across the energy and industrial sectors, underpinning our bold ambition in this field.
We will be delighted to hear from academics with expertise in areas of engineering design and innovative manufacture that embrace circularity, life cycle assessment, and sustainability. As well a clearly formed plan to deliver ambitious research objectives we will be seeking those with a demonstrable passion and enthusiasm for teaching design, manufacture and in particular additive manufacture at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
At Manchester we are proud to instil Social Responsibility at the core of our research and teaching, and we will invite applicants to consider how their own work would contribute to these goals also.
