There is an expectation that work will be undertaken in the UK.
This role will require a membership of the PVG scheme. An offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory outcome of this process.

The Post
We are seeking a suitably qualified applicant for the post of Lecturer in Education (Secondary Mathematics). The post holder will have teaching expertise and experience in secondary mathematics teaching and will be registered as a teacher by the General Teaching Council for Scotland, or eligible for full registration.
They will contribute to the ITE programme both in the specialist area and more widely, including in a leadership role for the ITE programme. They will also have the potential to contribute to other Education programmes including the University’s Access to Degree Studies programme and postgraduate taught programmes. Applicants should demonstrate understanding of and commitment to a blended approach to teaching and to pedagogical innovation.
The post holder will be passionate about learning and teaching, committed to the highest standards in relation to student experience and will have a growing reputation for scholarship, with the potential to contribute substantively to scholarly activities across the Education Division and the Faculty of Social Sciences. Notably, there are opportunities to engage with scholarship activities with colleagues focusing on curriculum, professional learning and social justice, including through the Stirling Centre for Research into Curriculum Making and the Education Division’s four Research Groups.

Description of Duties

  • Design, teach, assess and evaluate a range of teaching and learning, supervision and assessment activities across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including online/digital programmes where required
  • Contribute to curriculum review and enhancement, in a manner that is underpinned by evidence based scholarly activity
  • Enhance the quality of teaching provision and programme development, drawing on leading practices from the Higher Education sector
  • Develop and apply new, effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques and material, which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students
  • Contribute to enhancement of the student experience and employability
  • Mentor students and staff as required, providing direction, support and guidance
  • Engage in individual and collaborative pedagogical research and scholarly activity, which aligns to the strategic direction of the University, and disseminate results through regular publication in a manner appropriate to the work
  • Independently, and in collaboration with colleagues, contribute to attract external funding/income for scholarship activities

Essential Criteria

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive professional and/or teaching, learning and development experience,equivalent to doctoral level. Or a PhD (completed or near completion)
  • Higher Education teaching qualification or equivalent e.g. PGCert and/or holding or working towards Associate Fellow of Higher Education Academy (HEA)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Full registration with General Teaching Council of Scotland (or eligible for fullregistration)
  • Experience of designing and delivering excellent learning activities and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level preferably including online/digital programmes
  • Evidence of developing effective learning environments and approaches to student support and guidance
  • Experience or knowledge of approaches to enhance the student experience
  • Evidence of engaging in networks, locally, nationally and internationally
  • Clear plans for future scholarship activities
    Desirable Criteria

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Evidence of successful incorporation of subject and pedagogic research and/or scholarship within design and delivery of learning activities and programme development as part of an integrated approach to academic practice
  • Evidence of programme innovation and development
  • Evidence or knowledge to support international activities
  • Evidence of good knowledge of the Higher Education context and regulatory framework
  • A track record of high quality general or subject specific pedagogical work published in appropriate outlets/media
  • Involvement and/or credible plans for the active pursuit of external funding for pedagogic research and scholarship activities
