Description:
YOU SHOULD APPLY IF
You will be a researcher with a track record of successful research. You will have a research portfolio evidencing your academic skills, research experience and/or innovative approaches. You will have a strong commitment and aptitude for teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Your research will align with and add value to strategic priorities outlined in our School Research Strategy.
Responsibilities:
THE ROLE
We seek to appoint a new Lecturer in Evolutionary Biology in the School of Biological Sciences. We are interested in an applicant who we can support to build an internationally competitive research programme in the study of evolutionary processes and the emergence of large-scale patterns of organismal diversity using comparative genomics, and/or bioinformatics linked to our strategic research priority, ‘Understanding the evolution of life’. You will complement the long-standing research strengths of the School in evolutionary biology and add value to our overall research portfolio.
You will contribute to our teaching in the biological sciences, in the fields of evolutionary biology, genomics, and bioinformatics. You will be the academic lead for our successful taught MSc programme in Bioinformatics, working alongside a full-time teaching-focussed operational lead.
We are committed to equality of access and outcome, celebrating diversity, and providing an inclusive learning and work environment for staff and students. Through your research and teaching activities, you will contribute to our commitment to enhance the diversity of backgrounds and cultures represented in our School, including the diversity of role models we provide for our students.
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
You will engage with teaching and research in a growing and successful department; currently one of the leading Schools of Biological Sciences in the UK. As the role progresses, responsibilities will expand wider within the University. The appointment will further complement, as appropriate, University Research Institutes for Data Science (Jean Golding Institute) and Global Change (Cabot Institute), the Bristol Centre for Agricultural Innovation, the Wolfson Bioimaging Facility and the Advanced Computing Research Centre. There would be opportunities to create new research opportunities within the Faculty of Life Sciences, more widely across the University, and with external industrial partners.
