Duties/Pligte

The incumbent will be responsible for:

• Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in Mathematics Education, with both a primary and high school focus.
• Engaging in research in Mathematics Education and related fields.
• Publishing in reputable academic and peer-reviewed journals.
• Supervising postgraduate students in Mathematics Education and related fields.
• Participating in social impact projects in Mathematics Education and rendering appropriate services to the University and teaching community.
• Contributing to the academic administration and leadership in the discipline and the Department.

• Die onderrig van Wiskunde-onderwys aan voorgraadse en nagraadse studente met beide `n laer- en hoërskoolfokus.
• Navorsing in Wiskunde-onderwys en verwante vakgebiede.
• Die publikasie van navorsing in hoogstaande akademiese en eweknie-beoordeelde vaktydskrifte.
• Studieleiding van nagraadse studente in Wiskunde-onderwys en verwante vakgebiede.
• Deelname aan maatskaplike-impakprojekte in Wiskunde-onderwys en lewer toepaslike dienste aan die Universiteit en die onderriggemeenskap.
• Dra by tot akademiese administrasie en leierskap in die vakgebied en in die Departement.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

• A strong background in Mathematics.
• A relevant master’s degree in Mathematics Education focusing on pedagogy and content knowledge.
• A teaching qualification.
• Evidence or potential to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
• Evidence or potential to supervise postgraduate students at honours level in Mathematics Education and related fields.
• Experience in teaching Mathematics Education at undergraduate levels.
• ’n Sterk agtergrond in Wiskunde.
• ’n Tersaaklike meestersgraad in Wiskunde-onderwys met `n sterk fokus op pedagogie en inhoudskennis.
• ’n Onderwyskwalifikasie.
• Bewyse van, of potentiaal om in eweknie-beoordeelde vaktydskrifte te publiseer.
• Bewyse van, of potensiaal om nagraadse studieleiding op honneursvlak in Wiskunde-onderwys en ander verwante vakgebiede te bied.
• Ervaring in die onderrig van Wiskunde-onderwys op voorgraadse vlak.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

• A PhD in Mathematics Education with a focus on pedagogy and content knowledge.
• Experience and/or knowledge of technology-aided education.
• Multilingual skills relevant to the South African context.
• ’n PhD in Wiskunde-onderwys met `n fokus op pedagogie en inhoudskennis.
• Ervaring en/of kennis van tegnologiegesteunde onderwys.
• Veeltalige vaardigheid tersaaklik tot die Suid-Afrikaanse konteks.
